I Just installed a BBK SSI intake on my 89 Mustang LX. After starting, timing, and test driving, I could smell oil burning. I took the top plate off of the SSI intake, and there is a pool of oil in the upper intake. What did I do wrong? I was supposed to be going to the track tomorrow night, but if I don't get this fixed, I won't be able to. Please help.

Check and see if you're sucking it through the pcv. I'm not familar with your intake, but it's pretty common on other intakes to suck oil.

Well, there are a couple possibilities.

1) It could be coming through your PCV. This typically happens if you do not have the wire mesh PVC filter installed.

2) It could be coming in from the vent tube that runs from the oil filler neck to the throttle body. At wide open throttle, when crankcase pressure builds, oil is sometimes sucked in through the throttle body especially if the baffle in the valve cover has been removed.

I got it figured out. I bought the intake used, and whoever I bought it from put the plate on the bottom of the lower intoke on backwards. There is supposed to be a slight gap in the back and a big gap in front, but the big gap was on the back allowing excessive oil through the PCV valve. For tonight, I just plugged the back of the intake and ran the PCV hose to a separate canister. I'll remove it and fix it after tonight. Can't miss a night at the drags!!!!!
