believe i need to mill my intake. what to do.

hello, my block has been milled, the new heads may have been a little. now i can't get the intake to seal. i think i need to get the intake milled to the right angle of the heads. if so would i need to take off the heads and send all 3 pieces to the machine shop or would the whole motor have to be taken to the shop for measuring.

do you mean a thicker head gasket. would that hurt compression much. i already have to use shims on the rockers, i'm hoping that won't need longer pushrods. what would i measure, i can't tell by looking at it that it need to be angle milled or anything.

No thicker intake gasket.

You measure the disance between the heads (over the vally) and then measure the manifold in the same spot.

Minus the heads distance from the manifold distance and divide by 2 and that gives you a rough figuer of how much needs to come off each side on the intake.
 
who makes a thicker gasket, what is the part number i am using the 6.99 felpro set for an 85 set.i wouldn't see how that would help though since the heads will still be in the same spot and still be misalligned. the intake will just be higher. this is the way i see it. not sure i am going to try that though. wonder if the heads were angle milled.
 
a thicker head gasket would work though probably. i talked to a machinist and he said that it should be sealing because the heads only had between .004 and .008 taken off and he said the block can't have much milled from it so he says it should be sealing. i am going to check the intake surface of the heads for straightness. the intake worked fine with the other heads. i used mostly .030 of shims on the rockers so that should mean the intake should mate fine right. since others shim there rockers and don't have intake problems after head installs.
 
iwell the intake sits flat on the oil galley but it also sits on the heads. everytime i loosen my bolts i hear a creaking noise and when i loosen the other side of the intake, all of the bolts are really loose. it has never done that before. i guess when i tighten the bolts, it is sitting on the oil galley walls and pulls one side of the intake to one head and not the other. i am still putting some .120 intake gaskets on it before i tear it all down again. the machine shop i talked to said since the bolts line up, the thicker gaskets should work. i ordered some 1353-2 gaskets for them. they only had up to .120 so i got it. would stacking gaskets work right.
 
Take the heads and the intake to the head shop. I've seen this happen with people's cars before.
At the local head shop that does the work, they port match the heads and the intake and angle mill the intake as necessary for about $150, using a mach up block they have at the shop.
This can be a common occurance with the PP typhoon intakes (not that you are using one).
