I'm running behind on my project now because I didn't get my bellhousing installed today.

I had indexed it over the weekend and found the bell to be too far right by .019. Ordered up the .021 offset dowls and installed today. Indexed again to find I'm now more than double too far left. WTF

So I turn the dowls so I'm offset to the left now, and I'm .020 too far left.

Ok I say to myself let's try the stock dowls again. Install those and find I'm .018 too far left.

So with the .021 offset dowls I'm ~.020 too far left. With the stock dowls, I'm ~.018 too far left.

Can someone explain to me how two different days give me two different results AND how these offset dowls are doing me absolutely no good at all?

Do I have to drill out ALL the bolt holes in the bell to allow for this adjustment or something? I'm lost. Please help, I'm on a time crunch here.

what kind of setup are you running?? I've NEVER had to index, even with the tremec 3500 trans in my bro's car.

TKO 500, lakewood scattershield, 5.0

ALL steel bellhousings need to be indexed according to tremec, lakewood, mcleod etc...

Could you use a .007"-.009" offset to get within spec ?
