Allright, help me out. I think my belt is slipping. I removed my smog pump and put on a 91 inch belt. It was a PITA to get on there so I thought it was short enough. I drove it that day and it seemed fine but it sat in the garage the past month and now it squels hella loud sometimes. The tensioner is tensioned to it's max but the belt seems tight. When I start it up it squeels, at idle it's fine. If I blip the trottle it squeels for a sec then shuts up and if I rev it up right after that it will still be quiet. Sometimes when i'm driving it's quiet then somtimes it squeels. I believe the sound is coming from the alternator pully. Is my belt too loose? Or maybe is my alt. going bad? Also, the gauge reads about 12 volts while idleing, but if I put the AC on max, blasted the stereo, turned on all the lights and kept moving the windows up and down and watched the needle on the volt gauge dip down to like 6 but maybe thats normal?? Let me know what you think or what I can do to test it. I only drove the car for about 5 minutes because that sound scares me. Thanks

sounds like the belt is not tight enough... Where is the pointer on the tnesioner? Maybe the tensioner is just weak...

need a shorter belt!!!

hey bro,

Ya need a shorter belt, plain and simple! I am running an 82.5 short belt on mine. I have no smog pump, march power & amp series pullies, had the same prob, when i added an elctric fan set-up for some reason. i had to drop down an inch from 83.5 to 82.5-I even think-i could of went to 82 without any prob.

Matt, when the belt is squeeking that means that its slipping on the pulleys, not that its too tight. You either need to increase the belt tension or it kinda sounds like you need an 89.5 inch belt.....or you just might want to route it differently? are u sure u have it routed the right way? by the way i put my car all back together and it still runs like $hit! haha good luck dude...bring her back in one piece.
