belt tension

is it possible for the belt tensioner to apply too much tension? The range markings on the tensioner appear to be out of limits.

Do you have a different than stock belt?
Did you take into consideration a possibly different alternator pulley size?

..I have considered maybe different pulley sizes. I've been told to ask the parts store for a longer belt but they aint got a clue, they just gave me a factory type goodyear belt.

well measure the belt u have add and inch to the overall length and tell them u need lets just say a 6 groove surpantin belt 24" long

so apparently the belt for a '85 gt with factory air and manual trans. is the size i need...that same belt also works on certain GM trucks and 4 liter jeeps... weird
