Ok so i have a rebuilt 89 motor with and f-303 cam and edelbrock rpm heads with 2.02 valves.

I was having some problems with starting it(when i got it to start it would idle high for lik 10 seconds then shut off) so i decided to do a compression check because when i checked the timing by holding my finger over the hole nothing happened, no blow finger off the hole or squat! So my first check yielded cylinders 1 2 3 having ZERO compression and cylinders 4 5 6 7 8 having 140 pounds.

So i took the valve cover off and also took the rocker ams and pushrods out and retested again and this time i got 90 pounds on cylinders 1 2 3. My question is what do u think happened? My ptv cleareance is a little tight and the top of he piston had to be dremeled a lil bit for the valves to clear and was wondering did i maybe bend a valve? I would think that if the valve was bent it wouldn't hold compression at all? Maybe the seats are bad? also the heads were used but the machine shop i took them too said they were fine before i put them on the motor. I'm also using stock length hardened pushrods.

After i took the pushrods out i did get some compression so i obviously didnt do something right, So i dont think it's the piston rings as the motor is still brand new. I have never had the motor running other than the 10 seconds it ran for and the head gaskets and everything else in the motor is brand new( i didnt even put antifreeze in it yet)

any help would be great and im going to take the heads off cause something aint right and also if its a bent valve or bad valve seat how much do u think im lookin at for a repair? THANKS
