Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a gasket set for my upcoming 289 rebuild? I see Summit has different sets listed in it's catalog:

FelPro #FPP-2804 $124.95
Mr. Gasket Standard #MRG-7120 $46.95
Mr. Gasket Ultra #MRG-5983 $102.95

Is there another, better set that I am overlooking? My rebuild will be of the top end only, iron heads, hipo style cam, headers, about 9.5:1 compression ratio, high performance street (no strip action).

Thanks

Hipo,

I have had great success with felpro in the past. To me they are worth the extra coin. I have them on all my cars but one. I went with Cometic on my supercharged LX because I'm running 22lbs of boost!

Only Felpro's in my engines. Only bad gaskets they've had was the Print-O-seal head and intake gaskets (POS)

The felpro set that I mentioned above has Print-O-Seal intake gaskets.....if they are so bad that it's a deal breaker on that set, then what about the other two? Is it better to piece together everything that I need rather than try to find everything in one set?

i also agree that felpro is the best. i have only had one issue with the print o seal head gaskets, and that was back in the early 80's. i do however prefer the perma torque head gaskets. as for mr gasket, they also have good gaskets, we used them on a race car many years ago with no problems.
