I want to put A/C in my 1968 coupe. I want it to look as close to factory as possible, but still be brand new. Who makes the best kits, consider ease of installation, looks and operation.
Best A/C kit?

I've heard Old air makes a hell of a product, but don't quote me on that. I'm in the same boat as you.

Is your 68 an original A/C car? Do you have any of the OEM A/C parts? The answers to these questions make a big difference in which is the best way to go. My issue with most complete kits is that they don't allow a fresh air option. On my 68, I:
1>Refurbished the OEM heater/AC box and put in the new, more efficient evaporator
2>Upgraded to a larger, well sealed to radiator support condenser
3>Upgraded to a Sanden compressor
4>New custom made hoses from a kit that I cut to my length and had crimped locally
5>Used all the OEM controls and vents with new duct hoses
Fast idling, in the sun on a i08 degree day, I get 46 degrees out of the center vent!

My car is a heater only car, I did pick up a set of A/C vents and controls a while back, but they aren't in that great condition and would not really match the interior.
I have a 68 coupe that came with factory a/c. I made a deal with the guy i bought it from to put a new a/c in and being a crook and cheapskate he installed the kit for car without fac a/c which was a total screwup. i changed it back to my fatory controls and vents, had to do some fabrication on the controls to make it work but it works great. My fan switch did go bad after about a year. I called the factory and they sent me a new switch no charge.
It does work great but i have a freon leak somewhere i cannot find. But that is probably fault of installer. The only gripe i have is the water cutoff is not positive and the manual cutoff is very hard to turn. You have to have pliers to turn it. For the winter you have to open the manual valve and for summer open it. If they used a positive cutoff valve which works from the temp control you would not have to have the manual valve.
I still recommend it highly.
