I have a SD 5.0L with stock heads/intake and 1.6 roller rockers. What would be the best cam for my application. I want more performance than the stock cam offers.

Crane 444212
Crower 15511
Comp Cams
35-514-8
35-310-8
35-440-8

Any suggestions?

Whoa i think no one has answered because sd is very finicky about what cam you can use. Have you thought about converting to Mass Air? I know its Expensive but it would allow you more choices.

Crower makes an excellent speed density cam. I'm sure somebody will be kind enough to post the # soon.

out of those choices I would have to say the crane , the lift on the others is WAY high for valve clearance not to possibly be an issue , keep it under .520 to be safe unless you are doing flycut pistons

ok i would say the best all around speed density cam is the crower 15511 .

with that out of the way i dont think you should cam your car yet yes its cheaper than heads and stuff but you wint see the real gains out of it till the rest of your engine is oppened up .

im running performer rpm heads and matching intake with a stock cam and 1.7 rockers and am 12.50's and faster .

granted a cam would help and i might go that route soon the stock cam offers a ton of performance .

in my opinion mass air isnt worth it unless your going with a super charger or some crazy combo of parts ..

i say stay with the stock cam, its a good cam and it runs well as it is. Plus the factory SD cams (87-88) are a little more agressive than the 89 up ones....

Ok. Stock heads don't really warrant a cam change. Cam isn't the problem.

the stock cam isnt even close to a bottle neck on 5.0s
the big ones are lower intake and the heads.

Yes, look at my results. I'm pretty happy for what I have, BUT I highly recommend you get your degreeing tools out and take off the valve events from you stock cam so that you can choose the best Intake Center Line to install the cam.

You probably dont want to hear it but i would go to mass air. I didnt want it at first but once i figured out how easy it was to do i was surprised and sooner or later youre gonna need it anyway when u do heads and intake. i got my mass air computer 150 and the harness for 45 bucks and i already have 2 stock mafs.

My first 5.0 was a speed density coupe and ran hard. With nothing but rockers, 65mm throttle body,GT40 intake, 3.73's and offroad exhaust it went 12.70's and I didn't know the first thing about EFI. The only problem I ever had was an occasional idle surge. I wish I still had that car! I love speed density!! Heck, recently I just found out that you can run a small supercharger with speed density!!!

That was a respectable et for near stock trim. I will keep the stock cam for now and save for some AFR's.

How does the speed density respond to the spray say heads, intake, 1.7 rockers and a 150 shot?

Don't fool yourself, you either need to change to Mass-Air or get a tunable SD engine control system like the Western Motorsports SDS.

At WOT spray and heads don't really matter much. The computer doesn't use the SD A/f charts or the MAF calculations. It uses dedicated WOT settings.

You're real concern is part throttle driving. That's where and why you need the MAF conversion or tunable SD system.

thats not necessarilly true .....

hmmm my combo is heads , 1.7's rr's , rpm manifold and a 150 shot go figure .

daily driver no issues and no professional tunning , the is a slight stumble at idle every now and then but then the computer catches up and its fine .

speed density worksss

I have to agree with brian15. We use it and we don't have problems. I don't spray though and probably won't in this car (have in others).
