Best Carb to buy?

Best Carb if $$ is no object?

Opinions please (with good reasons why). I'm currently using a BG 525 and it just plain sucks. I'm seeing all kinds of people having all kinds of problems with Demon carbs. Okay, they are obviously crap. As for squares, what's the absolute best 625 cfm OR LESS carb money can buy (with Ford kickdown linkage)?? If money's not the object, what do you buy?? The objective is driveability first. I'm so sick of stumble, flooded floats, etc.

I have a great story, but most people will not agree with me. I had a 68 Firbird 400 with a Pontiac 428 in it. I had an old Holly 750 on it that drove me crazy. So I broke down a bought a brand new Holly 750 vaacum sec, and elec choke from Summit. Drove me crazy. Wouldn't idle, stumbled, poor drivability. And I had been working on Hollys for several years. I changed jets up and down, and everything else. Had a few Hollly "experts" try to no avail. Summit actually took it back and I bought an Edlebrock Performer at the SUmmit tech's recomendation. Man, it was like I had a new car. That car idled for the first time in 5 years. I mean rock solid 750 rpm. And would flat out fly. I could drive it around town all day long. All I had to do was set the idle air mixture with a vaacum gauge and set the idle. 10 min. I would buy another one over a Holly anyday. But I would buy a new one. A lot of people have reported problems with used ones. I just got the new Summit catalog today too. $265.95 for a 600 cfm EGR elec choke. Summit P/N: EDL-1400 on Page 23 of the May-June 2005 catalog.

You can't go wrong with a Motorcraft carb.

Holley 4160 600cfm shiny carb.. its available from jegs or summit for like 239 new. has the ford kickdown and electric choke. calibrated for ford small blocks. bolt it on and go.

if you want it to perform out of the box and low maintenance i'd go with the edelbrock.

I hang around the Fordmuscle forums quite a bit, and I have heard nothing but good things about BIGS carburetors. I think if you drop them an email they will custom build you a Holley.

Don't know about y'all but I LOVE my three Holley 250's on my 331 stroker. After getting them dialed in 6 months or more ago, I ain't touched em. And that sound------------ STEREO!!!!!!!!

Any more opinions? Holley vs Edelbrock Carbs. I am thinking about buying soon myself. Not happy with my Holley 750 DP.

Get your carb and car properly tuned, after reading your last thread, seems to be you might have just as bad luck with a different carb. The 525 design and 4100 series Holleys are nearly identical(except for the aluminum). Leaving one evil to go to another isn't going to fix anything! The problems you are exhibiting are tune and setup, not design or manufacturer.

As much as I don't care for BG carbs, I do agree here. Sticking floats are due to three things, bad float, too much fuel pressure, or dirty fuel making the needle stick.
