My Spec stage 3 just crapped itself after only 4 months use with the KB. What a piece of crap. It absolutely grenaded. Watch this, got it on tape, was trying to make a burnout vid . The wind was blowing the smoke past the passenger side so I just pushed the clutch in to disengage the tranny so my camera man could move. What a horrid sound.

What's the best clutch to handle high torque? i thought the Spec stage 3 was so good . I'm gonna have to put a heavier one in now over the winter. I pulled the clutch cable cover off the tranny and a bunch of chunks of clutch came out in it.

The 3 and 3+ have the same holding capacity just the 3+ is supposed to be for a softer more streetable pedal feel. I felt the pedal all right.

PLEASE dont say that . Thats the same clutch I have....hopefully I have great luck with it. I know those STG 3 and STG 3+ clutches are holding 600RWHP terminators with 0 problems....never heard of an actual failure. Maybe it was defected.

Centerforce DFX would probably be the next best clutch....although one guy with 500RWHP destroyed 2 of them one after another in like a week. I forgot what he switched to, but he hasnt had anymore issues. But there are ALWAYS horror stories, with EVERY clutch. I think alot has to do with installation, and random uncommon defects.

Heard bad about mcleod clutchs letting go under high HP loads. Go to SVTperformance.com and see what the high HP cobras are running....there arent enough high HP cars areound here to get a good responce. I PERSONALLY would just throw another spec in there....

McLeod 800 series is the best clutch you can put in a car like that. I've beaten the hell out of those clutches and never had a failure, even under 5500 RPM drag launches on slicks, and because they are not a puck clutch they don't chatter. Pedal feel is slightly lighter than a King Cobra.

I've switched up to a McLeod soft-lok these days, and that clutch takes 7000 RPM launches with no problem. Their tech support is a little spotty, but the product is awesome.

Your results with the Spec clutch on the other hand seem typical to me.

A buddy of mine has a spec stg 3 in his LS1 RX7, makes 800hp at the motor and its been holding up great over the summer as a daily driver and strip monster.

Checkout Mcleod, centerforce (some love them, some hate them).

Screw Spec clutches.
I would get a Centerforce DFX clutch instead.
My cousin has a Centerforce DFX clutch on his
722 whp 02 WRX and it has held up for two years
on his car so far with no signs of wear.
I love the feel of Centerforce clutches on a mustang.
I just bought one for my car.

his car is not a WRX is a mustang.... and centerforce is suuuccccckkkkk
the best one i've heard is spec but i'm seen on the vid the you don't know how burn out you have take of the foot of the pedal as fast as you can, i have a friend with a 2000GT 48K miles with 500RWHP and "stock clutch" and he burns out his 28" slicks on the track with bite...
