I have a 2004 GT and was wondering what gears would be best. I drive both city and highway alot so need something that wont eat gas to to bad. Someone told me the 373s would be best. I was wondering if you all have any different opinions or could even just tell me the best brand to buy and were to buy them.. Also, anythin else i need to buy with the gears? Appreciate any help.

4.10

I drive around center city baltimore alot and go to my parents house in Delaware every couple of weekends (2.5 hour drive) and have no complaints in either driving condition.

I have a 98 and 3.73 and i hear that the 99+ are good with 4.10 cause that little extra top end. 3.73's are perfect for daily driving cause you still get a friendly first gear.

4.10's.
Ford Racing.
I drive freeway all the time and my gas milage didn't change.
I would have gone 4.30's.
3.73's would have been a waste of my time.

3.55s - best of both worlds. Good accelleration and decent gas mileage.

3.73s - excellent accelleration and ok gas mileage

4.10s - who needs first gear and gas?

Your situation sounds a lot like mine. I chose the 3.55s just because they do get better gas mileage when I'm on the freeway.

wow, i really appreciate all the help guys. I THINK i am going to go ahead and get the 410. I know someone that put gears in his older stang and said he would do mine. Would it be safe to let him do it or are the 95-99 a completely different ball park? Also, what brand should i get?

My car came with 3.55s, unless you are looking to run some serious power then 3.55s are too low, you are only cheating yourself. And i have plenty of first gear with my 4.10s.

Just my opinion though.

When you couple 3.55s with a roots style blower it makes for nice bedfellows.

Another vote for 4.10s. You'll love them. No more downshifting in 5th gear to pass on the highway. Takes you out of the "drone zone" also

I went with 3:73's in my 03 GT and am sorry I did. Not enough snap.
will be switching asap !!!! If you want to boogy and don't want to
boost, go gear. Everything happens the same, just quicker.
Oh yea, I drive on the Interstate Everyday between 65 @ 85 mph
and she just purrs in 5th. Enjoy your new car !!!!

Only buy FRPP (Ford Racing Performance Parts) gears.
We have both and we both prefer the 4.10s - wishing I had done 4.10s on mine instead of listening to my tuner and going with 3.73s.
(Now, if you're like white99gt and are pushing 600+ RWHP, you might be ok with 3.73s.) :worship:

My stanger is a daily driver, soon to be supercharged. I drive on the highway daily. And I have 4.10s. No problems here. I'd highly recommend them. I have the Ford Racing Performance Parts 4.10 ring and pinion set with Richmond install parts.

So, 1 more vote for 4.10s.

"Dont fear the gear" sounds gay, I know, but it has meaning once you install the 4.10s

My gas mileage hasn't changed much, and I hammer the piss out of the car.

4.10's are the way to go.

Put 4:10s in last Fall...totally awesome...bet bang for the buck mod. I don't remember thinking that the car was getting worse mileage though...definitely woke her up....5th is no longer an overdrive gear.

Installed a KB 6psi non-cooled twin screw 6 weeks ago...car is a missle!

340 at the wheels and 4:10s in the a$$ and just plain lovin it! Oh yeah...she likes to drink a lot more with the lung. Not a daily driver here.

i have 4.10s...love them so much. first is rather nonexistant, but its quick.

gas milage depends on how you drive. i drive it pretty hard everywhere and get like 12mpg, but when i drive nice i get almost 17

Im debating between both too, I mean ive tried driving on the highway in 4th (like 2600 RPM) to get a feel for it and the car feels so stressed I don't know if I could get used to that. About it taking you out of the drone zone, im actually afraid it will put me right in it. Currently I get no drone on the highway (with flows and a PC), usually Im around 1500 RPM, with 4:10's i'll be around 2200 or 2300.... thats where the drone happens.

I like my 4.10's, but I feel 4.30's would have been a tad better.
