best intake manifold for mostly stock 5.0?

I can't buy em cheap enough or in quantity - right now I have none. They sell on ebay for $90-130 all the time. Guys buy them and have them shipped to their name at my address "attention" my name for porting so I know who they are for. Works great, eliminates added shipping costs.

Cool, out of the 3 stock,cobra,gt-40,,which would give me the best results after you port them,I have stock heads and cam. !993 LX with 373's aod

with stock heads, GT40, GT40P, Windsor Jr heads, the stock Cobra lower does not really need porting. I could balance the flow of the two front trunners to the rest of the runners, and that is what I did to my Explorer, but I'm not sure that would be worth the $100 I charge. We'll see how much power my stock cammed, GT40P headed, Expolorer intaked car makes this spring.

As far as which GT40/Cobra/Explorer to use? - they should all be the same except for sensor/EGR coolant holes that may or may not be there.

scorp69 - PM me a price shipped. I'll be out of town for 2 days.

If I already have a ported stock intake, and machined TB to 65mm, the next resriction is in my heads right? They 've been ported and polished, stock valve size. Would it help them flow if I went to an Ecam from the stock one?

well i heard the afr heads need reworked every 50k or so, is that true with the gt40 iron heads? becuase i know its not true with the stock e7's. AFR's are not worth it to me if i have to rebuild them every 40-50k, i want something i can just keep on there

agreed. i really like the afr's but i'm not prepared to rebuild them every 50k miles. i'll probably go with something else *when* i do a head swap.

It would make more power, but how much is a guess.

tmoss - I'd add the GT40 Y303 turbo-swirl aluminum heads to your list above; they flow at low enough rates that the GT40 family of intakes needn't be massaged to get the most out of them.

True MIke, actually any head that flows less than 220cfm could be on the list as the GT40 family of intakes flow about 205-210 cfm.

Getting your rocker geometry just right will help on the bronze valve guide life - they do come with bronze guides don''t they? Ever heard the expression "wears like iron"? - What material do you think Fords iron head valve guide material is made of?

tmoss, how long does it usually take you to finish porting once you get the lower manifold? How well can you say you balance the air flow in the different ports?

Takes 3-5 days to get one done. Greg at XSR Cylinder heads flow tested one of my $100 lowers on his SF600 flow bench last month and got these results......

Hey, I recieved the intake today, and flowed it. Here are the #'s,
I have yet to flow a stocker. Soon as I get one I will flow it too.
Also, I flowed the intake without a clay entry, which would have
netted a 10-15 cfm boost.

Runner #'s...........flowed @ 28"s
1 186 5 183
2 201 6 200
3 198 7 191
4 200 8 198
