Best Oil for California winter

I have Royal Purple in there now, but damn that stuff is pricey, I need to do an oil change and I live in Northern Cali, what a great oil to use for the winter months. mind you it dosnt drop below 30 degrees

????????? what to use ? Thanks guys

Oh ya and does an oil filter make a differnce I mean by company, like K&N, or OEM filter is there a differnce ..??

I live in Georgia and the temps don't drop much below 30 degrees either, and I use Mobil1 5w-30 all year round with a Motorcraft filter. If the nearest parts store is out of Motorcraft, I get Bosch. And the brand of oil filters do make a difference because some have anti-drainback valves and some don't. The ones without these valves could cause some unnecessary engine wear upon cold startup.

just keep using what you are currently using, i myself use Mobil1 5w-30 full syn.

you can customize the weight of your oil, say you run 5-30 in the summer
when its really hot..... then in the winter try 3 qts 5-30 mixed with 3 qts 5-20.
Since its not all that cold there.

missed that part, try to get a purolator from advanced auto. ones like Mobil 1 and Fram tend to be noisy

Fram sucks. I haven't heard of many problems with the Mobil 1 filters, though. I would run a Wix or NAPA Gold filter (made by Wix), or Motorcraft (real cheap, but reliable).

The oil you're running now is fine, just let the car warm up fully when its cold and you'll be fine. And like others have said, it's not like you'll see extreme cold temperatures where you're at...hell even here in Indiana we get negative degree mornings and days in the winter.

I run Mobil1 Full Syn 5W30 and a Mobil 1 M1-210 oil filter all year round.

I've always used Mobil 1 in all my past Mustangs, and have used all the oil filters out there... K&N Gold, Fram, Purolator, Mobil 1, Motorcraft, etc... To me they all get the job done IMO.

Not really a mechanical problem but it echos the internals more

Funny you mention that, I get My Ford magazine and 'they' said 15 seconds is good enough to warm a car up, heh

It does'nt drop below 30 much here either. I just use the car manual recommended 5W-20. Mobil 1 Synthetic and a Motorcraft filter. I've used that oil for 15 years. The price does'nt bother me.

Use a lighter oil in the winter and a heavier oil in the summer.
