Best Shocks for the money?

I tried to respond, as usual, very thoughtfully. If he had asked for the best, lower priced shocks, I would've replied differently. But he asked for the best shock for the money. I interpretted that as the 'best value'. I think over the long run, the Bilstein's are the best shock for the money -- i.e. - the best value.

I agree that your replies are always thoughtful.

I looked long and hard for dampers and what each brought for the money, and while Bilsteins are the best, they were simply out of the budget. I interpreted BB's opening post to indicate a similar situation/feeling. KYB's or some lower-end Tokico's were gonna be tops for the amount of cash outlay I could justify (read Bilsteins, as lovely as they might be, were not an option for me). Now if I was a smart, successful gent like yourself, I would buy Bil's too. And being in that situation sure makes it easy (I fretted over which to get and whether spending a little more was worth it, etc etc. When buying Bil's that is not anything one needs to do).

I will say that I would love to swoop in and take any near new hand-me-down stock dampers off your hands though Just kiddin Michael.

Don't get me wrong I would love to buy some Tokico 5 way adjustables or Bilsteins, I just can't. Right now I am unemployed and things are tight, so a budget is even more of an issue. I keep up with the maintenace and this is next on the list of things to do. I drive her daily over some bumps, smooth highways and the such. I am just noticing the bumps more and know it is the shocks going out. I want a slightly better ride than stock. If it rode like the 2003 I would be in heaven.

For what it's worth, the Bilsteins on my truck have about 70k miles of "occasional" abuse. In all honesty, they still feel the same as the day I put them on.
I got the Bilsteins for the stang for $459 shipped on what I though was one of those "hell of a deal" things from ebay Try comparring those suckers with some stockers that were 19 years old and 270k miles on them (oh yes, I could compress them by hand, easily )

I totally agree.
Buy cheap shocks and replace them every couple years and compramise ride and saftey during that time.
Tires, brakes and shocks... buy good parts... they keep you on the road and in control.

As for the less expensive shocks -- I'd buy KYB. But I'd encourage people to wait a bit if they can, save a few more $ and get the Bilsteins. Once you've had them, it's really hard to go back to anything else.

I went with Steeda Sport Springs and Tokico HP shocks.

Firm ride and very responsive.

Maybe I can help, I have a set of Tokico struts/ shocks (non adjustable= much cheaper) and some Eibach Pro Kit springs for sale. They were on the car for about a year of weekend driving. PM me and I will discuss the details, but the handling was great, they lowered the car about 3/4-1" and the ride remained very good. Dont get me wrong, you could feel the bumps a bit more but the car handled and looked so much better. I totalled the car and am now parting it out. Also have some hotchkis lowers for sale.
