Who makes the best UD pullies for a 99GT. I already have a Steada timing adjuster on my girl so I need a good set that will allow me to keep it.

Thanks

Go with Steeda U/D. They add a new balancer that will offset the different size and weight crank. They are integrated as one pulley, so install is the same. Additionally, they are made to work with your timing adjuster.

Get ready to kill your alternator, slow down all of your accessories, and gain no power or drivability. My alternator died twice from steeda pullies! The shop that does ONLY alternators said they see countless premature failures from pullies!

Hotstang. My vote is for Steeda U/D pulleys

Do a search on this, as i have read some good threads on this subject. A lot of people seem to like the Steeda pulleys.

call a few shops that dont sell pullies, and profit from them. You then will get the CORRECT answers. Try an alternator specialist on the web if you want. They cringe when you mention PULLIES. CAll the guy at mralternator.com and he will be truthful. When I bought my second alternator, the tech. said to take off the Steedas ASAP. I trust them over power hungry modders that define the placebo effect studies! Show me a bonified source that endorses reliability from pullies other than a speed shop....

not trying to get into a pissing match w/you. but if u were that worried about it, u could just leave stock alt. pulley on & use the rest. they are almost exactly the same size.

I thought so to, but I asked the technician at the alternator shop, and he said the other pullies still make a sig. difference in the way the accessories turn. Dont take my word for it though.... Call your sources like I mentioned for some real answers. I was just about to order pullies before becoming educated on them from non-biased sources. Wouldnt ford have put them on originally if they were better. You have a company in ford that spends millions in R&D vs. imitators that think they have better answers. Yes, a lot of mods are great, just not this one..

Am I missing something here. First you say steeda pullies killed your alternator twice. Later you say you were just about to order them.

I think there are a lot of things ford could have done better. How about letting our seats fully recline for starters. And how about the crappy headreasts?

Pulleys

Steeda-the best. I don't know what Robs problem is, I've had them on two Mustangs with 0 problems he described. My present ride, a 2000 GT, has had them on for some 60K miles. Cooling, A/C and charging all fine. Also had them on a '97 GT with good results.

Yeah I think Rob has more than pulley problems lol. Ive had ASP pulleys on my old car. Granted I did have to take off the alt pulley because it dimmed the crap out of my lights and my 5.0 was bad enough to drive at night lol. Now on my '03, the Steeda pulleys are . I have had 0 problems with them. IMO the only way pulleys can ruin anything is if they are installed wrong. You dont seal the notch in the crank pulley, your going to leak oil and ruin your engine. You dont torque it down right, you could be setting yourself up for a leak as well. As for the other 2 pulleys, I have been told by a few speed shops around here that as long as you use the proper belt for your combo, you will be . I have 0 charging problems on my '03 and noticed a sotp difference right after install. They might not be for Rob, but they are definately for me . Also if your that scared of something going wrong, why are you modding your car anyways? You do anything performance wise to your car you risk messing something up, grow a set and start modding !!!

Damn thanks for a ll the replys. I have a set of pullies on my old 94 5.0 and they work great no alt problems, it does not chage as much but I have never had a problem with the bat or the alternator.

I guess it is set, Steeda it is

i'd say go with the steeda. i have the pullies and timing adjuster installed on mine and notice no problems at all with lights dimming, alternator problems, or anything else. i think it was a pretty good mod.
