01-03... most stock horsepower. Until 05 anyway... they are getting a 4.0l v6 with 200hp. Bastards.

I get about 19mpg on my 1996 convertible with a heavy foot. I hear that pre 96 have some head gasket problems and whatnot but that's not to say you can't find one problem free. I hear that pulleys offer a nice hp gain, but be careful not to underdrive your accessories too much, especially the alternator. and flex' spacers offer a nice torque gain. Cold air induction and exhaust together will offer a much better gain than either by itself. Also the 96 has a full on OBDII compatible computer.

There isn't anything WRONG per se with the 94-98 v6... they're just slow(er). The 94-95 came with something really sad like 145hp or something. The 96-98 are much better but have like a 40hp disadvantage compared to the 99+ v6 because of the different intakes (single port vs. split port). I think the gas mileage is comparable... i can go like 300-350 miles on a tank on long trips. I believe my tank is 14 gallons, anyone know if that's right? Everyday driving I usually get around 220-250 miles out of a tank.

but wasn't the 200 a straight 6? Don't get me wrong, it's a good motor, but not a V6.

Just get a motor from a T-bird supercoupe. They're stronger than mustang blocks.....build it your way and you don't have anything to worry about.

Or just get a 3.2 from a Taurus SHO........that would be wicked if you could get past the FWD setup

Maybe I should pay more attention to how much is going in at the pump.

The years 2001 to 2004 are the BEST YEARS for the V6 Mustang. In 2001 Ford increased the horsepower from 190 to 193 on the V6 Mustang. The horsepower remained at 193 from 2001 to 2004. It's still at the 193 HP level for the current 2004 V6 Mustangs. I think that this is the reason why the years 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 are the BEST years for the V6 Mustang. Other than that, I also beleive that the styling of the V6 Mustang is the BEST for these years too.

the only thing that turns me off to the 99+ 6's (not as much with the gt's and up) is that they look like a friggin rally car, i think the 96-98's look a little more like a mustang should....

nothing that a procharger can't fix for any of the years. Mine is above and beyond a 2003 V6. There's really no best year......there are just different starting points in my opinion. Yeah, I could go ahead and get a 2003 V6 and start off with higher horsepower, but instead I got a 98 with lower HP. I've done all of the work to my car..... I could take a 2.3 and push 500 hp at the wheels......

Depends on how much money you want to invest to get the car you want. The way I see it, find the body style you like the most and then build the engine from there.

Ford advertise the 04 with 190. Does anybody know if this is true or if its just a mistake on the site?
