Interior and Upholstery Best vinyl adhesive for door panels?

I started off with changing the door lock actuators and got sucked into rehabbing the door... kept finding just one more thing to do ya'll know what that is like haha! My door panel boards were pretty warped so I got some new ones from LMR.

When I got into cleaning up the door panels I saw the passenger side vinyl has started to separate at the top of the panel from where the top red and black pieces meet at the crease. What adhesive would ya'll suggest for putting the vinyl back together and not messing up the panel? I was thinking of spraying some Permatex headline adhesive on a plate and using a Q-tip or paint brush to apply it? Thanks for the help!

I did what you're doing in an old Dodge truck and used the Gorilla Glue Spray Adhesive, right out of the can. No brush, no smoothing.

Once it tacked up a little bit, I laid the vinyl down and used a small, clean, paint roller to press it all down. They have rubber ones for this too (probably work better).

I imagine that the Permatex spray adhesive you have is similar and/or as good as the stuff I used.

If those are the new ones from LMR I'd contact them, they are the best when it comes to customer service/support

3M Super 77 and super 90 are great spray adhesive, albeit a little messy

Problem is, you are trying to stick it to what appears to be foam. This won't work well. The adhesive will stick the vinyl to a superficial layer of foam and it will tear away again. Really what needs to be done is it needs the edge of the vinyl to be affixed to the seam, and I don't think that will happen easily.

If these are ne from LMR i would contact them. If these are your originals, i'm not sure how to approach these. Might need to remove the foam layer underneath in which case then you can affix directly to the cardboard.

These are I believe the original door panels. The part that is is separating was vinyl to vinyl on the top of the door where the two pieces are pressed together. Maybe this pic will make it a little clearer this is the passanger side

I dont think i can spray something its going to have to be more precise than that...I was thinking of a little bead of gorrila glue maybe and then using a paint stir stick and some clamps to hold it together till it cures? I just didn't wanna start putting stuff on it that isn't gonna hold and make a mess that I have to clean off before I can try something else...

Someone else suggested the super 77 too but yea spray adhesive = mess

I would try some contact cement. Brush it on carefully with a detail brush, let it get tacky and press it together.

Mask it off and shoot the glue then pull the masking tape/paper and squeeze them together. Never done this so it’s a guess.

So I chickened out and took the panels to a upholstery guy... he is gonna fix the separating vinyl and put the panels back together with the backing board for 150 bucks... I figured it's something I'm gonna see EVERYTIME I drive it and it would drive me nuts if I messed it up...

Now this may change topic a little here, when I took the outer dew wipe off I have not horrible but not great rust on the top of the door. I have zero experience with bodywork/rust removal. All my research is showing spray on rust inhibitors, but I just had the car painted and I'm worried about overspray. Is there anything I can brush on or is that just a bad idea?

Wire wheel it, sand it and/or use some rust converter on it and paint over it... It will get worse if you do not stop it now
