Best way to clean out an upper intake???

my upper intake is off my car and while its off, i opened the inlet hole to 75mm instead of 72 or whatever it was before... now i know there are some medal shavings down inside the intake....

anyone know of a good way to get all that out of there?

my thoughts were dumping some gasoline down in and shaking it around and dumping it out. doing that a couple times until i know all of the shavings are out....

any other ideas?

remove the lines and plugs that can be taken out easy and put a garden hose to it.

just fill,spray,flood that thing...maybe use some liquid soap too to susp. the fine metal pieces.

fill it full of brake clean and throw a match in it!!!!

let us know what happens and take lots of pics.

seriously, +1 on the garden hose. or fill it full of chemdip and let it sit a day. that will remove all the carbon in there as well.

Water is in the air you breathe, and so does the engine. As long as it doesn't get water poured into throttle body, it will be fine. I would recommend soap and water, with a really long bottle brust, then rinse it with fresh water, then take compressed air and spray it out to get the majority of it out.

Like stated water won't hurt it aslong as you get most of it out.

got access to a hydraulic press and a bead/sand blaster? Press the freeze plugs out of the ends of the upper plenum and blast all that stuff out of there after solvent cleaning it. When your done, press new freeze plugs back in.

You need a press? Can't you just knock them out?

Yes you can, but it's harder to get them in without a press - unless you have a tool just to do that with a hammer.

I like to use a shop vac first....then hit it with soap and water.

I just hosed it out, then dried it up. Then i blew it out for a while with a compressor. Cleaned it out real good.

solvents/soaps will take the oils out, but not the combustion by-products from the EGR system.

I use Gunk foam engine-brite myself....just douche it down with that and let it set a few.....shake it around some, then hose it out....It will remove 95% of the Black crud....blow it down with compressed air...
If you been porting and have it full of slivers and filings then soap isn't gonna cut it to me...I want something thats gonna cut thru the crud and get the filings stuck in that crud...

well, yesterday i tried soap and water 3 times, and it seemed to work out great.... i couldnt see any shavings still down in there so i think we are good to go!!
