Best Way to Tighten Balancer?

I don't think I tightened my new balancer enough (stock replacement) as I shredded a belt the other day. I installed the balancer over 6 months ago, but ever since I installed it my belt has squeaked. I finally took off the $35 squeeky belt and installed a $15 dollar replacement that squeeeked and shredded in about a weeks time. I can't find a way to lock the motor in place so I can put enough torque into that huge bolt so I don't just end up turning over the motor. ALso, I have U/D pullies if you need to know.

Please help as I will be needing to take my car to knoxville form nashville occasionally.

Quickest way is to drop by a garage and asked then to give it a whap with an airwrench...couple hits with that will tq it just fine...prolly get 150 lbs easy with air....u/drives make no difference...the bolts right in the open...

Yeah, our cars have a decent amount of room to get an impact in there no problem. Sucks you don't have a 5spd.

All you need is 80ftlbs or so.

I have an impact gun, but i dont think I can get it around all the AC lines...maybe I should remove the pulley?

BTW what else would be a reason for shredding a belt?

If the pulley is out of alignment with the other pullies or if it is cockeyed, that can shred belts.

Swedish rope trick. Go to walmart and get a big thing of nylon rope. Take out a spark plug, stuff the cylinder with the rope until you can't stuff it anymore, then start turning the motor over. The rope will compress and not harm the cylinders and finally lock up rotation so you can torque it down. DO NOT JUST ZAP IT WITH AN IMPACT. You'll do more harm than good. Torque it correctly.

I borrowed a tool from a friend that basically grips the flywheel teeth.

All you do is take the dust shield off the tranny front. I'll let you know how it goes as I'm swapping balancers tonight.

I'm on my third balancer. I would never buy a stock replacement again. And you have more HP than I do.

Update: Got the balancer in. Did NOT use the tool mentioned above.

While considering all options of jamming the converter with a steel object, I decided on a less stressing attempt.

We ran a piece of rope through a converter/flywheel hole and wrapped it around the bellhousing where the rubber plug is on the bottom. We wrapped the rope around about 4 times and it worked great. Flexed a little which helped cushion the movement. And held the 120lb torque specs. for install.

BTW - my balancer came out and the shaft housing was cracked in three places. The crack at the key was all the way back.

No more crappy replacement balancers for me!!!

Very simple. Get a large screwdriver, turn the crank where you can lodge screwdriver thru the crank pully to the screw under the front cover (important: put the pressure on that screw and not the cover). Then torque to about 125lbs. Do not use an impact wrench. Also be sure to put some silicone sealant in the key way on the balancer and crankshaft. I also put some antiseize on the balancer. Just One Man's Opinion. Peace

My crank pulley is aftermarket and doesn't have holes....
