Hye wonder what motor to go for dragraces...i want to go carbed thought was thinkin 351 W or a 390 any other ideas would be great

Honestly, for drag racing cubes are important. Many get the job done with 351 stroked and high revving, however you can get 600cubes out of a stroked big block, add a turbocharger to that and then your only problem will be trying to get all that to the gound. A good site that can help you is www.rehermorrison.com Go look in thier tech talk secton and it will give you a lot of usefull info. They type of info that seperates the ones that know to the one's that just heard.

The best n/a motor for drag racing would have to be something like the 815 ci ihra pro stock mountian motor. I have not seen any turbo/sc/nos car run as well as these motor do n/a. However I am sure there is a hand full out there some were. If your just bracket racing build a decent 357 maybe even stroke it and call it a day. Your could always put a kit or 3 on it down the rd if u wanted to run a 10.5 type class

For what I can afford, a carbed 347 on spray is the way to go.
Next step up is a stroked 351, etc.
A 460 converstion will get you into the 10's easily, but the others will also do it. Stroke this puppy if needed.
What's your goal, fastest times, bracket racing, or heads up class? The options are determined mostly by what you want to do and how much $ you have.

well its me and my buddy were 17 and we dont have a whole lot the main goal is to get a car and a good motor to build eventually for racing..i was thinking a 351-390 in a notch?
I would build a 347 stroker with spray, but thats just me and if i had alot of money, like other people said, its up to you, do research, read around on articles and such see whitch motor you like and what parts you like and go for it, i myself am 17 and have sought to build a 347 stroker. I almost bought the donor motor but realised it just wasent worth it and i dont have enough money, so I hope you guys have been saving money since you were like 14 or have your dad paying for it, and know something about cars,besides you want a big motor in it and want it to go fast.

yea mob im not going to go all out right away were jsut starting off slow im graduating this year and taking a trade in welding so i will hopefully be making 30+ $$ an hour ina couple years i have big plans ^^ were only buying a junker and starting from nothing and LEARNING about cars thx for the advice tho

If it is a fun/strip car... Go with a 385 series motor (429/460) And stroke it... You can get a 514 or 557 shortblock for $2500 on Ebay...
If it is driven on the street ALOT... go for a 351W, and stroke it to 393... Or if you go dart... Stroke it to 468

Take it from me, i finished my welding classes last year and got a job at Stainless Works performance exhaust as a fabricator/TIG/MIG welder, and let me just say that the welding trade is very fun and takes lots of skill, everyone at my work is great, i've never had a better job so far, and the pay/benefits are great
yeah everyone in my family is a welder pretty much my grandfather is REALLY good...he did the floor in my daily driver...anyways i have a 4 speed tranny in a ealr to late 70's f150 its a manual i was wondering if that would work in a mustang i think i know where a 460 is also in a big ford town car..im not sure the name of it..so i was wondering on the tranny..its out of a 4WD truck lol just let me know if im a idiot or not

Do a 460 big block,build it up mildly and put a 200hp shot on it for track time.Should run great for a long time,and cheaply if you can get a deal on a used engine.

Yea im prettyy sure we have a 460 out of a lincon town car for free im hoping anyways if not it wont cost much thanks for the advice fellas
