I stopped in at Gresham Ford to get some parts today and they have a new 2005 mustang sitting on the lot. The car is a back on black automatic with polished wheels. the sticker is 27,000 but there is a 5000.00 mark up bringing the total to 32,000. It's a sexy car but needs to be lowered about 2 inches.

Hmmm, I think I would drive to Seattle to save $6k . Suburban Ford in Sandy will sell them for MSRP or less, though, so I'd just keep going east after I got to Gresham, and not stop until I got to Sandy...

Its basic supply and demand. If you are one of the few that have it you can charge what ever you want. Ask one of the people who bought their 03 cobras back in early 2003 what they paid versus what you would pay now. About 10k difference. I bet Matts D plan price would be around 24,000 that would be the only way I would buy one. Even at that it's a streach. For $500.00 a month in a year my 92 gt would be in the 10s!

My point was, there are two dealers that I can name off-hand that have 2005 Mustangs in stock and are willing to sell them at MSRP or less. Skip the nasty dealers that think it's okay to charge 5k on a GT that within a couple months will be 1 of 100,000 .

Exactly, its not like the GT is a limited production or something special

Same true when the Mach 1 was released the last few years, dealers trying to get 3-5K over MSRP. I'm glad I didn't jump into tempation to buy new then. I ended up paying for used about 8K under MSRP. I know a lot of people who overpaid on their Mach's and are just buried right now!

I would like to see these dealers get slapped with a fine from ford every time they do the dealer mark up . all they are doing is hurting the sells on the car and getting them out on the roads. ford is trying to keep the price down on the cars and some greedy POS is tring to line there pocket. we should go test drive the car like we stole it then laugh at them when they ask if we want to sit down and crunch the numbers.

I did that last year with an S281SC but when I was done I told'em "the $10k mark up is not gonna fly with me". Yes they had a 10k markup on it

I try to do my part -- I passed along the info about the 05's up at Bowen Scarff because they are clearly more interested in acquiring a customer than just getting a sale. I figure we should be sure to take our business to good dealers like that, and try to take business away from the slimey ones that try to price gouge.

My thoughts exactly. Some companies like Porsche Cars North America do that. The dealers eventually figure away get around it though, like having the owner of the dealer or the GM buy it, then leave it in storage, or on the showroom floor, then advertise it as a "new" car and jack the price up.
The first publicly available Ford GT was sold in Washington for over $500,000. Crazy! That is a limited car so I kind of understand, but the '05 Mustang? No way. Plus, never buy a first year. Too many issues. Cool to have a first year car, especially a new body style, but it will no doubt spend a lot of time in the shop which is too bad.
