Black box attached to hood

I have a 91 lx5. 5.0 attached to the left side of the hood is black electrical box at first I thought it was an under hood light but I see place to put a bulb any thoughts?

It's a mercury switch. On when hood open, off when hood closed. Make sure it's not unplugged where the wire exits the hood.
They changed them after '88 or '89. Mine doesn't look anything like yours & uses a different bulb.

1989 was the first year of that style. My '88 has the older version. Still works though

any idea what bulb the '88 style socket takes? the socket is there, but no bulb.

Just searched on Sylvania's site and they show the bulb style changing in 1990.





I'd think by looking at yours you could tell pretty easily which style bulb fits.

Its the top one.

I put an LED in mine. Much brighter and I don't need to worry too much if I leave my hood propped open for a day or two.
