Anyone who has done their interior from tan to black help. I'm using black vinyl for 1994 interior from 50resto. First I clean with soapy water and scotch brite, wipe down then spray with prep cleaner then wipe again then paint. the result is flat black not similar to original interior black. But then when I wipe with armor-all it looks better. Is it normal for these pieces to look flat black with no shine at all? The parts Im painting are kick panels and door sills and are already black but I want to paint them anyway to match it all. Does the weather have anything to do with the results? I did it outside right at sundown about 67 degrees. Will it look different when I actually paint the tan parts like the lower half of my quarter panels?

One more thing: what year manual seat track would better fit my 2003 leather seats I just got for my 94. I don't want motorized.

The fox manual tracks worked fine for me.for the paint, try painting a hidden spot or the back side of the tan peice to see how well it matches.

(i used SEM Landue Black on my grey dash and it matched the factory black perfect)

i'm a fox guy but i stumbled onto this thread and i figured i could lend some advice, being that i just did this to my own interior... and to answer your question: humidity has a lot to do with how a paint job turns out

for what it's worth, i just painted my black and grey dash and plastics to all black using SEM products... they absolutely cannot be beat for painting vinyl and hard plastics

i washed the parts with (grease fighting) dish soap in warm water, dried them, wiped them own with a good grease and wax remover, wiped them down with tack cloth, sprayed them with SEM plastic prep spray, spayed them with SEM adhesion promoter, and then painted them with SEM color coat "Landau Black"

the key to a good finish is in the prep work, don't skip steps, don't touch anything with bare fingers once it's been washed/degreased (latex gloves help) as finger prints are greasy, and allow ample drying time before you try reinstalling anything (i.e at least two full days)

here's where i ordered my paints and supplies Auto Body Toolmart

good luck and i hope i helped!

Chris

here's a bad pic of my interior 98% finished:

I did this a couple of years ago and it's still holding up really well. One extra step I took was to put a couple light coats of clear over the black. This helped bring out a little bit of a shine to the flat black and also really helps with scratches and chips.
