I have a 1988 mustang and want to convert the interior to black. I know that the 1990 front seat belts fit my mustang but the rear dont. What year of mustang came with black rear lap seat belts that could bolt on my mustang? Are there other models of Ford cars with OEM black rear lap seat belts that could bolt on my 1988 mustang?

Black interiors were only started offered in 1990. So you're probably going to have to dye the rears if you want black belts.

I read somewhere that some mustangs between years 1980-1985 had black interiors and the rear seat belt were indeed lap seat belts that bolt on to 1987-1989 mustangs. Is that correct? If so, which years came with a black interior?

There is a guy that had a big write up on the interchangeability of black parts from the earlier cars. I don't have a link handy, but maybe someone does.

The earlier belts will work, if you can find some. I did put 90 model belts in my 87 LX. I drilled a hole in the wheel well and used seat belt bolts and washers to mount it under the quarter panels. The rest of the belts bolt in place. We've been using them for the past few years for my kids with no problems. I can post more info if interested.

79-84 Mustangs had black interiors. The rear lap belts should work fine.

Will the 79-84 front seat belts bolt on with no problems into my 88 GT along with the rear lap seat belts?

I would think that you would be able to use some sort of Fabric Dye.

Just go ahead and buy 5 point racing harnesses, they look better than stock and if they are mounted right they will be safer too!

I put '82 Black belts in my '89.

The only thing I had to change was the plastic cover where the front belt mounts to the car.

I've also attached a copy of that guide.. use at your own risk.

Good Luck.
