Black smoke (rich) when revving in neutral (edel 1406)

Just been starting to tune the engine after swapping manifolds. I noticed that when I rev the engine alot (up to 4-6000rpm) I get alot of smoke out the back. Its dark, rich smelling smoke rather than burning oil. Which side of the carb is likely to be too rich running the stock edelbrock 1406 rods/jets/secondaries combination?

first make sure the metering rod pistons can move freely. second check the adjustment on the accelerator pump linkage. these are usually the common problems.

Went to the furthest out hole on the accel pump and god rid of the smoke. Thanks!

Now to get rid of all the other rich conditions ....
