Ive had the nitto 555's on my car since i bought it, about two weeks ago i blew the front pass side one and im ready to replace them all because theyre getting worn.

What id like to know is what our stock tire size is and also any other good tips about buying tires. I dont know if im going to get new nittos or try another brand. What type of tires would yall recomend for our car? Also do u need the car alligned or anything after you get all new tires?

Oh yeah, and the tire that blew has a bent rim... if u check my garage u can see what kind of rims i have, im looking for another one to replace it. Do you guys know the name of my rim style or where i could find out?

I've been very happy with the Sumitomo HTRZII's. I run them on the fronts and Nitto 555R's on the backs (I'm "hooked" on them for street driving )

The Sumitomo's have great wet and dry traction and the tread looks great to boot. I had 245 Sumitomo's all around when I got the car - loved 'em. I was able to cut 2.0/low 2.1 60fts on them when my car was stock with the stock tranny/converter. I was happy.

The price is great also, they last a long time.

I'll be buying them yet again when the fronts wear out,

I just bought new tires..I think stock size on mine is 225 55 16's but I think you got the 17" rims

yeah i just checked... i have the 245/45/17s

im lookin at some sumitomo 255/45/17s for the front and 285/45/18s for the back

anybody know if i could fit the 18s in the back??


anybody tried it?

Alright I ordered the sumi's 245/45/17s all the way around--only 88 bucks a piece for new ones, not bad at all. Got 'em from www.tirerack.com

I'll tell you guys how they hold up to the nitto 555s that i've had on there the last few years

one more thing.

when i got the flat it bent the wheel a bit. So i'm checkin out discount tire's site to replace it and i'm a little mixed up. They have two sizes for my rim:

17X9 5-114.3 24S (51672)

and

17X10.5 5-114.3 28S (51676)

They are both powder coated silver with a glossy finish so they both look alike. I just cant tell which size will match the ones i already have. I checked the numbers on the back of my wheel and it almost looks like it says its 17X8.

I guess what i'm asking is how crucial is it that the sizes match up perfectly?

... I figured that the 8" in the 17X8 should match tire width. But 8 inches is only 203 mm... so that doesnt near match up with the 245 mm wide tire that those rims are currently holding. Anyways i think i'm just confusing myself more the more i think about it lol. any help will be good

You were asking what those are called ... dunno if they have a name like alot of wheels do, like "pony's", "waffle's", and "tri-bars". But those came on '96- whenever cars ... not offered on '94-'95.


BTW, IMO, they look good with the inset of the wheel painted the same color as the car. At least it looked good on the one's I have seen. Dunno about white, though.

The tire outer DIAMETER is what is most important. The ABS will have big problems if they are too different (5% maximum IIRC). The rear Traction-Lok will also not be too happy with significantly different sizes on each axle end. It should be noted, however, that it is possible to have different rim sizes and still have the same tire OD. I have 18x9's up front with 245/35 tires and 18x10.5's with 285/30 tires out back.

The wheels you have are 17x8 and were stock on 99+ GT's that didn't have the Bullitt wheels. That being said, they are cheap and you can probably find one in the classifieds or on ebay a lot cheaper than buying another wheel on discount tire which isnt going to be a matching size. FWIW, they didnt make that rim in 17x9 and 17x10.5, you may be confusing them with the '95 Cobra R wheels which looks similar.

As far as tires go, Ive got 245/45/17 Nitto 555's in front and 315/35/17 Nitto 555R's out back, and i love them! The drag radials are even decent in the rain

EDIT: I just looked at the wheels you were looking at and i was right, they are the '95 Cobra R's, not the ones you have on the car.
