Blew Clutch @ Track

Well it finally happened, after having a sqeaking TOB for about 2 weeks and a stock clutch with 55k miles on it, I decide to to track this past sunday. It was finally a nice day a little warm but the track was empty so I would have got a lot of runs in. Then on 3rd gear of my first run BOOM no 3rd gear or any other gear for that matter and I coast to the end of the run .

Considering the track is now 60 miles from home and I have no clutch (I mean the car wont even move at all). I have no option but to borrow a friends truck and trailer and make the trip back home and then back to the track to get him. Luckily for me he was there or that tow bill would have been about 400 bucks atleast.

The moral of the story is be prepared for anything while racing and what can go wrong will go wrong at the wrong time.

Since I have no clutch I need a new one, I called Steeda and they recommend the SPEC stage 2 with billet flywheel and new cable. This sounds like a good setup but I am looking for some input on the Spec clutches I have heard good and bad about them. I also plan on doing this myself with help from a friend in my garage how much of a PITA is to do and does anyone have any good tips.

I blew my stock clutch up too at 35K miles by missing third. Luckily it was warrantied. I don;t know how my current one they replaced it with is holding up so well. I now have 670K miels on it, and it's still holding up great even under boost. I believe the Spec stage 2 , and (aluminum ?) flywheel is a good set up w/ a new cable. It can't be too hard to change it out the labor for a clutch install is only around $250.

BTW - when I blew up my clutch I was able to turn the car off, put it in gear, start it back up and drive it like that. I was about a mile from my dealer so I just drove there in second.

670k miels on it WOW

sounds like a good setup on the clutch to me. but if your paying to have it done it might get a little more expensive than what you might think, due to your longtubes. so be preparred. good luck with it, especially if your doing it yourself

I have a feeling it is supposed to be 67k miles.... I hope.

I thought about the centerforce because of the horror stories with the TOB on the SPEC's but after talking with the guys at Steeda they seem to really back the TOB SPEC supplies so I might just get that. There are also a few other thing I might order at the same time like Aluminum D/S and a Tri Ax but I am not sure yet, I have to check the Finances.

Well your not going to like this but here's the truth: I'm getting a spec stage 3 installed right now. I have BBK longtubes and there is no way to change the clutch without loosening the passenger side longtube. We were able to slide tha tranny away from the engine but could not get it totaly free. We stuck the new clutch in and tried to reposition the trans back but it would not go. So hopefully they can loosen the header without droppingthe K member. Good luck.

If you go with the Spec clutch stop by the dealer and pick up a TOB, don't use the Spec one.

That definetly sucks, but the my Jet Hot L/T are modeled after the Hookers and It looks like I have plenty of room to pull the trans without touching the headers. I just havent had a chance to drop the trans everything else is out of the way so it's just a matter of a couple of bolts, then I could order what but in the meantime I am still shopping around.
