I submitted this over at the Power Adder and SVT boards, but they often doesn’t get a lot of viewing, so I thought I’d ask the same question over here…..

....I’m thinking of selling off both my Mustang and my Cougar and buying a Lincoln Mark VIII. I’ve always loved the Mark VIII’s (GEN I or GENII), but although they’re by no means gutless, they’re still a lot of car to move. My plan would be to install some sort of positive displacement blower to the car. Does anyone know if the KB charger designated for the ’96-’98 Cobra’s would work on this car. I’m not too concerned with hood clearance, I just want a trouble free instillation. I know they sell a couple of set ups for the centrifugal type blower (Vortech) but I really like the idea of the low end grunt that the positive displacement blower adds. I’m not wanting to go crazy with the boost, but an extra 100-120fwhp would be nice. What are everyone’s thoughts?

yes it would work but you will have to move a ton of wiring.

Also dont expect to push a ton of boost through it the crank is cast and the rods are the same as our sohc motors. I am not sure how the fuel system differs from the mark to a cobra so you might check into that too.

Well, here's the one I'm looking at now, but the guy wants $16,800.00 Canadian for it. It's only got 97,000km on it though

Well, after careful deliberation, I've decided to put the Mark VIII idea on the shelf for now and continue to build my Cougar. It seems as though the only kit that you can get for these cars that doesn’t involve mixing and matching or a lot of fabrication is the Vortech centrifugal blower. Which is going to require me gearing the ba-jesus out of it in order to make up any sort of useable torque curve on the heavy Mark! I’m really only interested in the low end grunt that only a positive displacement blower like the Eaton or Kenne Bell can provide and as much as I liked the idea, I really don't have the kind of money to experiment with different combinations and tuning, fabrication, etc in order to do this thing right, at this moment. As such, I'm going to go ahead with my Cougar build with the ported PI Head conversion, forged internals and AED 9PSI kit. It won't be as nice as the Mark VIII, but it should be as quick, easier to build and a whole lot more reasonably priced.

R.I.P.
