I know this isn't exactly a Mustang topic, but it is a cool car topic. I just wish I knew who to talk to to get my squadron to shut down our runway so I can shoot my car up and down it. But anyways.... and I did get to see this live a few hours ago.
Today at NAS Pensacola, Motor Trend had the bright idea of racing the ZR1 against a Blue Angel the length of our runway (8002 ft aka about 1.5 miles). They did two runs. I know who won..... and you're gonna have to wait for the August issue of Motor Trend to find out!
They let some of the Blue Angel pilots take their cars on the track and gave them rides in the ZR1. One of the guys had an Acura TSX. The thing looked soooo slow going down the runway.
The ZR1 does have a good exhaust note and you could hear the S/C whine when the car was slowing down, but under hard acceleration it was all 6.3 liters of American muscle.
It pays to have the Blue Angels stationed where you are. Haha. I get free airshows on my drive into work everyday!
I'd love to see a Super Snake or the P51s take a stab at it too. I mean I know how it'd end, but still a cool specticle.
