I was reading a few threads and I already made up my mind I want to go with a 331. My goal is to get my car in the 10's. So definatly will have to put a blower on it. I think i'm going to go with DSS or CHP Block. Anybody have an experience with either one of these places? I like trickflow, but what h/c/i setup do you guys recommend to get me in the 10's? How much HP will I need for a 10 sec car? Any information would be great. Also if you know any setup's running high 10's lets hear them.

(It's going in the car on the left)

Thanks!

Wanna do this the right way? You'll need an aftermarket block to be more reliable. I'd use a dart. This project WILL get costly. I'd do a 347, since in inches alone, your giving up a good 15+ hp.

I'd use a set of afr 205's (assuming your using a good bloack to handle this) a victor 5.0 intake, 75mm tb, a jay allen or ed c custom cam, 1 3/4" longtubes. That alone will get you low 11's n/a, then throw your 8-10lbs of boost on that You'll need big injectors for this motor, no wimp 42's for this combo!

Or you could tone it down a bit and use afr 185's or TW heads, holley or rpm 2 intake, custom cam and the s/c and run high 10's. How fast ya wanna go and whats your budget?

From what I've heard both companies are very good. I would call a respectable engine builder and ask them what they think. Then call for a custom cam to match what your trying to do (FTI, Crane, and so on) it’s not cheap to get there. Why not a 351 stroked?

Blueprinting the motor is a good idea, but just tack on to the cost. To get the tolerances within blueprinting specs takes a lot of work.

Go with a 347 for 10's...I went with a 331 because I'm not looking for 10's and I need to use my car as a semi daily driver for the next year.

A 347 isnt gonna be any different on the street vs a 331 besides more power. Dont believe the oil burning internet issues. Proper machine work and a good kit is all it takes to be great!

So your saying go with the 347, and put a good set of heads, cam, intake on it and I will be low 11's. Of course with the usual other stuff. I heard alot about the 347 burning oil, but never experienced it so I don't know who's side to take.

What should a 347 DSS Block run with 75mm track heat upper and lower, Twisted wedge heads, 75mm throttle body, 30lb fuel injectors, 255lb fuel pump, street/strip tires, 373 gears, headers, flows, etc. What kind of horsepower are we talking with this setup?

Thanks

Oil burning is a real issue on the 347's. The height that the piston rings sit causes problems with burning oil. But like everything else, good machine work could probably fix it. Again go with the 347, they're better for beating on!

I would get a super pro bullet 306 from DSS racing and a PTK turbo kit with a T-70 or 76, Canfield heads, Eddie Victor 5.0 intake, and an Ed Curtis cam. That would be silly fast and bullet proof. You could go hunting for 9s with that setup. Thats pretty expensive but damn it would be trick.

What cam are you planning on? I'd use a bigger intake. I'd use a custom cam with a holley, rpm2, tfs r or a victor intake. You do the research and decide. Assuming a decent off the shelf cam with the track heat, i'd say around 350-360rwhp. You'll have the power for mid 11's. Definatly gonna need 1 3/4" longtubes. You'll make closer to 400 with a custom cam and a bigger intake while still being perfectly streetable.

OK, oil burning with 347's is NOT an issue. I've done so much research on this (because im planning on one) its not even funny. Go ask on hardcore50.com or do a search on there and find out the FACTS not myths! CHP designed a different kit for 347's using a 5.315" rod as opposed to the usual 5.4" rod. Good parts along with good machine work make your engine work as its supposed to!

Know anything about the DSS setup? Like is it the same safer rod ratio as the CHP kit you mentioned?

No, dss uses a 5.4" rod. CHP, to my knowledge, is the only company that offers a different rod for 347 street car kits. Rod ratio's arent an issue either, again, its another one of those things that people on the internet over-dramatize.

DING DING DING! I wish someone would of told me this before I got the 347. I don't regret it but I just wish I went with the turbo route instead of the stroker motor.

Cool, I just emailed DSS for a quote and wholesale info since we're a shop. Hopefully I'll get hooked up if the buy-in isn't too much.

I'd look into www.coasthigh.com and www.horsepowerengineering.com

When I finally do a new motor (347) its gonna be a CHP rotating asembly (cast crank, forged 5.315" rods and forged probe pistons) and im gonna have HPE do all the work to it. I emailed erik bacn n forth many many times and that dude is one helpful mo-fo, great guy, def has my business. Im hoping to order soon. I have plans for a new motor/drivetrain for my car and I just bought a tko trans and pro 5.0 shifter, so the engines next
