I am starting to sand on my 89 and need to know what grit of sandpaper to use, it has been painted 3 times so it is pretty thick I want to go to the metal.

if you use the aircraft stripper just be prepared for a gunky mess when the paint is stripped off.

180 grip would take it down pretty quick, you could go even courser, but you will leave some serious scratches to be filled

If you are stripping the car to bare metal, once you have stripped all the paint you should apply 2 coats of Epoxy primer and give it enough time to properly dry before applying anything else to the body (ie. body filler). If you want a good Epoxy primer, search for a company called SPI, they make some good products.

just use 80 grit on a DA.

When you get all the paint off like u want. run 180 over the metal on your DA.

There are a couple ways to do it. If you're gonna strip your paint to metal and leave it a while put epoxy on it.

Or do your bodywork then put epoxy over it

let that dry and put 3-4 coats of urethane primer

Just depends how you wanna do it.

No offense but if you're asking what to strip it with, chances are its nearly your first time and you probably are mostly concerned with it just looking nice and shiny again.

If thats the case just do your bodywork and put some urethane primer on it and paint that bitch lol
