this is for my sisters car its an 88 hatch there is a nice size dent just behind the door in the molding a little smaller than the size of a basketball on the drivers side what i was wanting to know is can i just take off the panel behide the dent and bang most of it out? ive never tryed this before so im looking for some info we would take it somewere but we dont have the money for it so i figure i could make it look a little better i dont think it should be that hard. so if any of you guy have any info that i could use before i get started on this little project it would help.

well depending on what part of the car it is in you chould be able to just push the midle really hard and pop itout but if it has any kind or ridge or peak running through it that wont work. but you should be able to get most of it our regardless, and yes you can get out in the way you mentioned, just be VERY carefull not to pop it out too far and dont try to get it perfect, just get it close enough to save a few hundred bucks at the body shop.

dont wack on it with a steel hammer. try to use a rubber malet, your hand or a peice of wood. If theres no creases, you might get awat with just knocking it out.

Maybe you can try one of those "Pops-a-dent" things, as seen on TV.
I've always wondered how well they work.

FIRST go to NAPA or an automotive tool supplier, get a suction cup for handling glass, try to yank the dent out with that.

i think with the shape of the dent i cant use a suction cup wont work and those dent pullers are to small unless there is a biger one that i dont know of. i think if i can get to the back side of it i could put a pice of wood on it and hit it out.
