I always love how people buy a house full well knowing a race track is near by. The tracks were there before the houses. Then they bitch about the noise. For me having a road course right around the corner would be a buying point. I would love to be able to drive my car down the street for an O/T or race day. Of course I'm a little weird like that. The thing is the land becomes worth more than the track itself.

Yeah the tracks been there since like 1960 or 61, I think.

Heck they only let em hold like 3-4 "major" events there each year. Probably only 12-15 even if ya count all the little races (excludes fri-sat drags).

Guess they think that building another housing development there (so a bunch more people can die) is a good idea.

Long live the memory of Vanport.

Yeha portland speedway is old school, but its on the other side of I-5, (i know you know that, Im just saying...) PIR itself is on the site of a town that flooded back in like the 40s (i think, my grandma used to tell us stories about it as a kid) Whole bunch of people died...

Hey, wait a min.... (opens second i-net window...)

4:05pm May 30th 1948: 15 dead - dozens injured - 18,000 homeless.
"The Portland Jaycees saw that the abandoned roads of Vanport had the potential to become a road race course and convinced the Rose Festival that they should sponsor a race during their annual celebration. The first Rose Cup races were held in June of 1961, starting a tradition that continues today. Soon after that first race both Go Kart and Motorcycle enthusiasts started race programs of their own with Drag Racers starting about four years later. "

seriously? J/K, I just heard about how it all came to be recently too. They dont teach this stuff in school. Pretty crazy to think all that was under water.

And Dave, I know...its just my feeble attempt to say WTF people...you dont like the noise, go away. Instead, we now have a very quiet dirt lot where the old track used to be. Maybe we need another flood to get rid of the whiners

I was raised like the kids in the movie "The Village". My parents told us to never cross the water due to the bad people and things on the other side. So, I stayed on the Westside.

you can run up to 103db before 10pm, after 10 it's 90db, but they still require mufflers on all vehicles even if they are below the noise limit. 'course if you're below the limit they probably won't ever check.....

They have a fixed measurment point around half track on the tower side, the distance depends on which lane you're in and where your exhaust is pointed

well, i'm pretty much screwed then.
a cutout on each side pointed outward

pretty sure it will surpass the 103dB limit as well.

PIR is too loud? I live at Jantzen Beach and everyonce in a while I hear something going on over there. But if people want N. Portland to be more quiet, then move the airport, not the race track.

Every Monday morning at 3:00am there is one that comes over my place... a turbo prop by the sound of it, probably out of Boise or somewhere.
