Not to throw gas on this but I modded a stock TB and plenum. Did the P&P but i also matched the various openning sizes to help smooth out the air flow. I believe I increased the area that the air flows through due to two things. One at lower RPMs the car is a bit softer than it was. Two with the aluminum spacers and fender mounted CAI I went from mid 14's to 14.10's. For almost no money (about 100 dollars in it), it was worth it to me...
Everyone needs to be cautioned on how to do it right though, but also people need to understand that not everyone wants a S/C for their car. Seems like that is something that is getting pushed alot. Just my observation...

I appreciate your further explanation. I enjoy tinkering with cars, so if its very little or no gain, it doesn't bother me cause I enjoyed doing it. TB also needed a cleaning. At a minimum, if reducing the shaft did very little, at least the screws were taken out of the airstream. You can't say that didn't help.

I understand your "shadow" concept, so this would minimize gains by reducing the shaft size. If you think of them though as one airstream that can intermix (versus two separate airstreams that can't) maybe the shadow isn't as effective? I'd like to see flow numbers obviously but not likely to happen.

In thinking about this some more, since the TB blade is a circle wouldn't this shadow effect be less near the walls of the TB since there is less blade to cause this shadow/be in the shadow. So by removing more material from the shaft edges, you might be more effective in increasing flow. Maybe I'll take it apart and work on the edges. I guess I'm not one to sit in front of a tv all day, I like to keep busy doing something.

Again, thanks for the insight/feedback. Much appreciated.

Very good point.

We're really getting into the details here, which for most isn't worth bothering with. But I like to discuss this stuff never-the-less.

Here, Here white-04. I also like modding my car. I don't consider a S/C to be modding as most people can't put it on themselves and tune it to run right at their house. (I know some people will chime in saying they did it themselves, but most people take their car to a shop and pay to have someone do it for them.) I take pride in knowing that my car is quicker because of my work, my ingenuity, and my time. Not taking anything away from the S/C or T/C people. I will eventually be there myself but until I drop the coin I'm a modder.
