Hello all, new here. I have a 73 Mach 351 Auto. Wanted one since I was a kid, life happened never got one. Several years ago one came up and I thought, yep I can afford it now and bought it. It has never carbureted right, vapor locks all the time. If it sits very long, all the gas is gone from the carb. Rebuilt the holley that was on it. Rebuilt the fomoco that was in the trunk and it was doing OK. But still not right. Needed brakes and I didn't have time to do it so I took it and had them done, that guy took it upon himself to rebuild the carb and now it's wrose than ever. I'm growing tired of messin with it. What is the go to carb set up for replacement? I need to get it sorted so I can either enjoy it or sell it. Thanks in advance.

I believe an Edelbrock carburetor may run decent right out of the box, but like any carb it will need to be adjusted to run optimally.
I believe the vapor lock problem may be a separate issue though. Carbureted cars run a lower fuel pressure through smaller lines, so any high heat spots are at risk of turning to vapor. First thing to look at is how close the fuel lines run to any source of heat. It may help if you're able to move them a little or insulate them.
Depending on how much time and money you're willing to put into the car, a fix would be to install an electric pump with a regulator to feed the carb. This could probably be accomplished with your existing fuel lines. If you want to go deeper and basically cure all of your ails, you could spend the money and convert it to a throttle body injection setup like a Holley Sniper or equivalent. Most of them are now self learning, but you'd more than likely need to either add an additional fuel command center or replumb your complete fuel system. If I were to keep the car, that's the direction I'd go. It would all but eliminate adjustments and be about as driveable as any modern car.
