Just got my Vista Blue Mustang GT last week (I blame my neighbor whos on this forum for it.), and am looking to get a Borla exhaust for it. I've had Borla exhausts on previous cars and love the mello burbling quality it produces.

1. Has any one heard both the mello and aggressive versions of the Borla Exhaust? (Looked through postings and didn't seem to be mentioned .)

2. Is there any point in getting the Cat-Back vrs. just the mufflers?

3. Any point in replacing the CATs, cross pipe and headers if my only other mods will be a C&L CAI & Preadtor tuner? If so, any one have prefences to keep the mello Borla sound?

I have a 2006 Roush mustang. They come stock from Roush with Borla exhaust. I am pretty sure it is not the louder of the two as I saw on the borla website but anyway, it sounded very close to a stock mustang GT. I can't tell you about the louder borlas tho as I have not heard them yet. My advice is don't get the borlas. You will pay a lot of money to get a very very slight different sound. I already took mine off and just put in small straight through glasspack mufflers. Very good sound while not being anywhere near annoying. The only way you will get a very loud, and a little unrefined sound is if you go with the muffler delete option which is basically the SLP loudmouths. The new mustang GTs already come pretty loud as compared to earlier mustangs so you don't get so much of a sound increase by installing aftermarket mufflers as you did in the past. Oh yeah and to your other question, the catback system on the new mustangs is very efficient and needs no replacing. My advice is to go with just axle back and if you want a better sound but nothing annoying - put on very small straight through mufflers and you will be very satisfied

I love mine.
When I bought them they only had one version, so I would guess they are the more subtle of the two. There's a link in my sig (K.B.) you can hear them, this includes the MAC headers and prochamber but before the blower install.

First of all there is no way to judge the sound of mufflers by listening to them with aftermarket headers and a prochamber. The sound is totaly different and much much louder. With that set up it may sound awsome and yes the borla mufflers do make a good option if you plan on doing other exhaust work such as an offroad mid pipe and or headers. Then you will def. get a lot of nice sound. However if you are goign with just mufflers and thats all you plan on doing, the borlas are not loud at all. Ask any owner of a new Roush. everyone is changing out the exhaust for something louder. So if you plan on other exhaust work - go with borla. If you just want more sound and new mufflers only, look elsewhere unless you really want to shell out all that money for a very slight difference in sound.

I agree with the above, if you don't plan on putting those other parts in you have to listen to mufflers with stock bits in place to get the right sound.

I heartily recommend my Flowmasters, much more aggressive note, nice burble and sounds great WOT. On the highway they are absent which is great, no droning to speak of which is something they shot for on these mufflers. I got my axleback kit for $333cdn, I've seen them around for about $270US online.

Do some searches on Borla, I was going to go that way too but I've read in a lot of spots that they drone quite a bit on these cars.

Very little. You could potentially gain a couple (like 5 or less typically) with a cat back, but the $$ is ridiculous).

If you do headers, most people are saying do long tube headers so you actually gain a good 20HP and a H/X pipe might pick up a couple more too. The stock systems on these cars actually flow really well so not a lot of power there without going longtubes, more just a sound quality thing until you get into bigger mods. With just a C&L I wouldn't do much other than get a set of mufflers to suit your sound desires.

Wow so combative. First of all, I'm not arguing with you, merely trying to get the original poster some sound clips and relay my experience.

Do you have any clips of JUST the axle backs to help in this matter or shall we banter on?

It wasn't that I just wanted to do mufflers, just didnt want to waste the money on rest of the exhaust for JUST sound. L33T did you get the MAC PRO Chambers Offroad, to stock CATS, or with CATS? By the way sweet clip.

The first clip is the borla stingers on the stock h and the second is with the offroad prochamber. On my car the stingers were a lot louder than stock and got a lot louder with the prochamber although the clips don't show it. I don't care for the sound that much though and will be going with the MAC axel back

blacksheep what didnt you like. I have SLPs now. I like them but, would like the extra hp with LT and OR/H. But they would be WAY too loud, so I am switching axlebacks.
@ ALL
I love my SLP but read the above. Anyone looking trade. I am looking for the FRRP/Borla,MAC,maybe Bassani. PM if interested.

Wasn't trying to sound combative. Just wanted to say you can't tell how mufflers sound with other aftermarket exhaust componants and that yours may sound awsome with the borlas because of all the other stuff you had done, where is mine which was stock exhaust sounded very quiet with the borlas

For one thing it kind of sounds like a big trumpet going down the road at certain RPM's also it just doesn't have that classic mustang sound like the MAC's do.

It sounds mean above 2500rpm's but it is too tame and mellow below that which is where I do most of my driving. I'm looking for more loudness and growl under normal RPM's. This setup has a quiet mellow spot between 1500 and2500 RPM's. I feel the need to drive the car harder just to here the mean stuff. Here's another clip of normal driving, notice how quiet it is midway between gears.

Afer reaidng more posts I'm considering going with MAC LT's, MAC PROCHAMBER w/CATS, and the MAC Exhaust. After reading other people's posts though I'll probaly have at least the headers installed by a local shop.
