Time for some new plugs. Went to Auto Zone to get the replacement Motorcraft, and they were out.

Had some Bosch +2 (direct replacement to the factory platinum Motorcrafts), and +4 plugs. The +4 have 4 ground electrodes for (they say) more efficient combustion.

My question are they gonna give too much spark??

Anyone had experience wit 4 electrode plugs in a V6 yet?

The +4's don't give any extra spark at all. It's actually a less concentrated spark that over time creates issues. I have heard nothing good about the +4's, just bad and more bad.

not sure about the too much spark, but ive not heard any bad things about those. rule of thumb is, the hotter the spark, the better. there are people over at 3.8 who swear by them

I've used both the +2's and +4's. I actually think my car drove better with the +2's than the 4's. Just my .02 cents.

Appreciate the advice. I talked to a few other ppl as well and I returned the +4 plugs. Drove the extra miles to go to the store that had the Motorcraft in stock.

As for the "the hotter the spark, the better", not necessarly. To much heat is a bad thing, which prompted the question in the first place. I guess I should have asked it "too much heat" instead of "too much spark"... but I appreciate everybody's input.

first off the spark it self does not dictate hot or cold. it is the amount of airspace between the porcelan insulator and the plug body. the more of an air gap the hotter the plug. the less of an airgap the colder the plug. it is designed prevent detonation by reducing the chance of too much heat built up in the plug which can ignite the fuel before spark occurs

and no the general rule of thumb is the hotter the plug the better. it is just the opposite. you run only a plug that is just cold enough to prevent detonation

next issue. Bosch Platinums in any form are complete junk. the center electrode erodes away quickly and you are left with a hole in your porcelan insulator where Platinum used to be

best plug for standard replacement is something like an Autolite 604 or Delco R44LTS6 or Champion RS12YC or RS9YC

each are about $1.00-$2.00/plug and will give just as good performance as any platinum you just have to change them every 35,000 miles instead of 80,000 for Platinum

Appreciate the technical response... that's why I joined this board.

There is a local Mustang board where I live, but i've seen some very informative threads on here so this is where I'll call home.

Again, appreciate the response.

I've tried the +4's...all i can say is from my experience anyway I would stick with Motorcrafts or NGK's. I have used both and they seem to work about equally for me.
