Boss 302 Gurus I need help

I may have the chance to buy a 70 Boss 302,Grabber blue,Magnums, wing,Shaker(Ford Parts but not original to the car).It was restored about 20 years ago and still looks really nice as it has been inside about the whole time.Heres the catch(s) 1) I dont think it is a #'s matching engine (the #'s on the pad behind the intake dont match the VIN,is that the right way?) 2) The car has a Slavage title from flood damage. 3)The car is still in very good cond. currently missing the pass side seat, carpet, bottom of rear fold down(owner says he still have the seats??). Whats this thing worth as it sets???? It does run quite well BTW although I have not driven it yet. Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!! :nice:

I'm not sure what the current value is but Boss 302's are selling high. There are sites with value guides available. They may even be on the low side because muscle car prices are rising dramatically. The salvage title would hurt the value but if it is rebuilt right it would still be O.K. Make sure the vin# is a real Boss numbers car. If not that would really hurt the value. You could check that out through Kevin Marti. It would still be worth a lot even if the engine is not the original one as long as it is a Boss engine. A lot of Bosses don't have the original engine due to the way people abused them racing.

Good Luck

Sounds like you found a car that can be made into a really nice driver - something you can drive and enjoy everyday - and a real BOSS at that. Numbers matching is usually only important at the top end of the scale ie cars in the 50 K and up range. All BOSS values continue to creep up - get one while you can.

One huge question for me is the details on the flood damage:

Was it salt water?

was the car submerged?

How long ago was the flood damage?

Does everything work including all of the electrical items?

It's going to be a challenge to pin a price on it.

Heres a pic of it I took today. The water was "brakish"(sic?) It rained a LOT before the water came in with that storm. That was back in 99 and yes the car was completely under. The only thing that I have seen that does not work are the headlights(only). The car is at my house now I put a new gas tank in it and got it started again it runs pretty good but the whole car needs agood cleaning/detailing.

Have not bought it yet, still workin on him!. The bottom of the car looks good but it is showing surface rust on the rear and the backing plates ect. The # on the back of the block does not match the main VIN but I will get a Marti on it before I buy it. Thanks for the help guys!!!!
