Boss Mustang???????

hot4boss, I was wondering when you were going to pop in on this thread. That is great that Larry is producing these cars, but bottom line, it is nothing more then a tuner car, just like Saleen, Roush, Steeda and SHM.

Some of these guys might have been a little harsh, but bottom line the car is nothing more then a glorified GT, and if some insurance company wanted to pay 24K for a 96, then that is thier problem. Tell me, what type of insurance was it? Collectable?

Boss Insurance

No it was not collector or stated value at all. The company went by what similar Shinoda Boss Mustangs had sold for. Call Jack or steve and tell them you think they are "tuners". Fact is Ford sat on its bum for years and did nothing exciting with the cars and so other people did. And these "tuners" have drop ship codes and do it with Fords blessing. Where do you think besides Team Mustang that ford comes up with all its concepts now? They are turning to the tuners for help.

Times have changed....I dont think it's ever going back to where there will be only pure-bred mustangs. I used to be a purist, and besides the recent cobras and the SVO's of the 80's there was nothing cool out of Ford for almost a decade. I had an 88 GT with T tops. Not as cool as a Shinoda car.

At least the Shinoda cars were created by someone who actually designed a Boss car FOR Ford. I think the Shinodas deserve a little more credibility than the othe "tuners". The aftermarket guys all have to have the same credntials from Ford to do what they do. Shinoda has stuff from the govt NHTSA to build cars that the others dont.

I used to love the old stangs and thats why I got into them. I never could find that 69 that numbers all matched up or was affordable, or not a rust bucket.Actually wish I'd bought a Grande as they are unheard of now or a King Cobra when it was made fun of for its pinto ness. Then I stumbled onto an 84 svo... and the rest of the story is long.9 also what about the Mc claren stang)?

You sound as if you are an MCA purist who used to have total disdain for late models. Most shows I have been to lately have more late models than anything else. I dont think people actually understand the boss program as it was with Mr Shinoda. I think I will write a book........

Hey, thanks for all the info. I was wondering, I can't get on the teamshinoda website. Is it down for everyone, or is it just me? I want to research what stage my Boss is.

Edit: Of course it's back up now that I said something...

Thats wrong because I have one :p . take that back, it depends on what you are looking at. Yeah it is not exclusive anymore. That is the way some dealerships sell them for about $2,200 more. I got mine from Jordan Ford in SA, TX. I think CDC sells the same mods with high flow exhaust and mufflers. According to the service department it has 300hp. I don't for sure. I test drove a stock GT and that one, and that not only sounded better, it ran better. :flag:

If you got a car that has BOSS graphics on it, it is just a sticker car. No one can legally use BOSS without permission. The people who built your Boss can be sued by Ford. That dealership will be in big trouble for doing that.

The Team Shinoda web site went down last Fri due to server problems. Everyone called and told them.

Larry Shinoda

FYI Larry Shinoda passed away nov 1997. His daughter and son in law are graphic designers and have worked with Jim Klok to continue his work. Karen and husband design all sorts of things for Firestone, perfume companies etc, They are some of the most sought after designers in the world today. Larry originally hired jim away from Rousch to create performance packages for the car and to help with creative concepts.

Still very surprised any insurance company went for that kind of value, but if you say it is so, I have no reason not to beleive you.

I agree, Ford sat on it's bum for years. but fact is, every car manufacturer does the same. It is not profitable to build one offs or custom manufacture. That is why Ford is so darn happy to have all sorts of tuner companies out there right now.

On the psoitive side, at least they are doing things like the Bullitt, Mach 1 and rumor is someday a 302 4V. That is more then I can say for any other car manufacturer.

Look, I realize you are a Boss enthusiast, and I will never convince you it is nothing more then a tuner car. They basically do the same thing that all the others do, add some body panels and trim packages, tweak the engine or add power adders, add some of the basic bolt-ons. What is the difference between a Saleen and a Boss? From what you are saying, the Boss is valued higher then a regular GT, well so is a Saleen. Boss starts with the same thing everyone else does, and that is a basic GT.

What are they building, nothing. He is bolting on to what was already a standard run of the mill GT, so in my eyes and many others, this is a tuner car.

The only car I am an MCA purist is the Mach, and truthfully I am pretty proud it took a couple of Nationals and appeared on My Classic car, but that is where it ends.

My next project I am hoping to start in the next year is a resto-mod. 66 vert with a 4.6 DOHC.

Speaking of McLaren, I came within an eyelash of buying a McLaren Capri. Price was right, but something bothered me, don't know what it was, but that bad feeling was enough to make me go the other way.

Well I am off. Post some pics of your Boss.

Half of you people are morons. Larry Shinoda created the original Boss AND the "stickers" as you call them on todays cars. Those stickers have been around since 94, long before the "ricers" came along and larrys
family still helps run his company.

Team Shinoda has some ass kickin cars.
You call them slow, well you probably did not ever come up against a real Boss then. Some other companies made cheap copies of the graphics (which dont fit I might add) and there are lots of the sticker cars running around. Most are supercharged, have shaker hoods, Ram air systems and now they have a twin turbo which dyno'd at 597 at the rear wheels running just ONE turbo and it's street legal.

Saleen, Roush, Steeda and the like all started the same as Shinoda, selling parts where you could build your own car. Shinoda does have cars available at dealers.

As far as value goes, at least the Boss cars are documented... last years MCA grand National a kit car rousch took top prize in the rousch category and was a fake!!!

The Shinoda Boss are holding their value better than regular mustangs and they have the insurance claims where cars were totalled to back it up. The Cragar Shinoda car has been appraised at over 100 grand, that's one hundred thousand dollars PLUS.

The 001 Gen 1 car is appraised at over 80G.
And a 100,000 mile 96 Boss supercharged was just paid for by the insurance company at 24K as a daily driver car.
So before you make an As% out of yourself, Get the FACTS not just make up crap you dont have any clue about.

WTF? Stop talking out of your ass

LOL, I love how these threads bring the Shinduh people out of the woodwork. 18 posts....great posting! :notnice:

I'm kind of indifferent on the team shinoda stuff. I've seen a few at car shows that looked good and a few that looked tacky. I am curious as to what will happen when ford starts making BOSS mustangs. They have already been making the BOSS trucks...

I'm kinda the same way. I like the side Boss striping, but the hood stuff seems somewhat over-blown to me. And the original Boss 302's stripes seemed to be much more in proportion to the overall size of the car than do the modern ones.

The Boss trucks aren't Ford; it's a sticker package from another company (which I believe Shinoda is going after in the courts)...

I didn't realize they weren't factory. There is a few on the lot I deal with. They a much more than a sticker package. I've looked at them up close. painted black hood with a silver pinstripe. Interior all nicely done. to match the paint scheme.

Regardless of how good or bad the Team Shinoda Mustangs are, they have nowhere near the credibility of Roush, Saleen, Steeda, etc. If Shinoda has got their act together now and have become a serious Mustang tuner, it will take time to undo their reputation as an obnoxious sticker manufacturer. I will say this, though ... the Ford Boss F-150's above are a hell of a goodlooking step seemingly in the right direction.

Do you even know what they offer? Didn't think so. If you look at their website, the offer a stage 1 with 300 hp, stage 2 with 425 hp and a stage 3 twin turbo with 600 hp....I too thought they were grahics only but after checking them out I'm a little impressed...not too keen on a 60,000 price tag for the stage 3 but I guess thats what others in that range are going for.

I checked their site and I was really impressed. I've decided that if I can't afford this... http://www.teamshinoda.com/Mustang_40th 025.jpg
...I'll just walk. I've decided against Steeda and Roush - Steeda, because I think they put too much boost and HP on what seems to be stock 2 valve internals. And to spend a whole lot on a 380R Roush...you just don't get enough HP. But with Shinoda, it seems like they make major power and actually build an engine that is strong enough to handle turbo power. Might not be able to swing a stage 3, but I'd take stage 2 - seems like they can bump them up to 450+?

Also, isn't Sean Hyland getting in with "Boss" Shinoda as a partner?
