does anyone have a set of boston acoustics z5 or z6's in their '05-06 convertible? i want to replace the stock door speakers (it's not a shaker unit, just the basic 5.25" door speakers). i can get a good deal on some z6's, and i want to make sure they will fit. if not, i will proly get some z5's

also, should i remove the rear speakers? while browsing some dedicated car audio forums, i noticed many "audiophiles" don't have rear speakers because the soundstage is supposedly better w/o them. i've tried the sound pushed all the way to the front, and it sounds awful...but maybe it's simply because the factory hardware is junk

Acually the stock speakers are 5x7. anything else then that will need adapter rings made. The 6s will fit with rings and sound better then the 5s. as far as rears it has alot to do with the speakers. With my 99 and all aftermarket speakers and a sub it sounded great with just a front stage. with my 05 stock speakers I have to have the rears going, without it loses alot of bass. I am starting a new install in mine and I am going to run the fronts off an amp and leave the rears hooked up to the deck power. I do also have a 12 sub. Are you going to run a amp? i hope so because those bostons need alot more power then the deck can do. also could damage the speakers running with that little of power, because you will be running into distortion to get the volume you will want.

i didn't order a shaker system because i planned to rip out all the stock stuff anyway :nice:

for now, i think i'm gonna go with a single pair of z6's in the doors and nothing in the rear (i can always put speakers in the back if i miss them) and two 10"s in the trunk, a dedicated amp for the z6's and another amp for the subs

i'm looking at alpine and eclipse head units -- i can't decide whether to go all out with a dvd/navi system or just a high-end cd receiver

can anyone recommend a good navi system?
