how in the world do I get the caps out of the block? I already took all the bolts out...the haynes makes it sound like you gently tap the caps and they come out...
well, thats not the case...I don't understand the functon of those like 3/4 moon looking studs either?

I know there must be a trick to it!

As soon as they are out I can take the crank and rods to the machine shop!

To remove the main caps all you should have to do is detorque the bolts, then take a hammer with a wooden handle or deadblow and tap on the side of the caps. Tap one side with the wood handle, then the other, go back and forth untill you see them lift. If you use this technique you will not damage anything. As soon as you see them start to lift off you can GENTLY pry up. But if you do pry on them make sure you pull them off evenly.

Thank you, but please note - I'm an idiot...

I didn't realize there were bolts coming in from the sides of the block...I didn't think there would be fasteners out there.

Once those were out the caps slid out nice and easy...just...like...the...manual told me
