Bought first part / Fuel line ?? / Fuel cell

So the initiation has begun. I bought my first part. It's a sexy brown bakelite-looking starter selonoid relay. $17 or so at NAPA. Off to a flying start. So the hitch is that I'm not sure how to wire one correctly when there was not one there to start with. + battery to one end and the starter to the other looks pretty sensible. So the other two smaller posts are labeled S & I. I'm guessing ignition switch and starter. I'll have to trace or look in the manual to id the starter switch wire but I dont see any other wire coming off the starter except the main power lead. Am I close?

The day after I had purchased the car I was walking out of the bank and a guy was getting out of a $30,000 race ready '67 fastback next to my truck. I stopped and chatted for a while and told him of my purchase. He immediatly told me that my first mod had to be replacing the stock fuel tank with a cell and installing a metal firewall behind the back seats. Also, the previous owner said that he was having a fuel problem and had to replace the filter a couple of times the last time he was driving it. He suspects that hte tank needs to be cleaned out. I removed the tank and sure enough it's got a coating of rust with flakes of rust floating around in the last of the gas. I've cleaned and epoxied motorcycle gas tanks before and it's not something I'd like to do again. So I'm in for the fuel cell. Any recomendations?

And how about the fuel line? It looks in decent shape, can I just clean it out and reuse it or should I replace it for any reason? |Any easy ways to blast some water through that small line?

Thanks

As far as the solenoid goes, I couldn't tell ya for sure, all my wires go into tubing and I haven't cared to figure out what they all are. I hate electrical.

I don't know about the fuel cell being the first thing you need... but if your tank is already being replaced and you plan on racing it, now would be a
good time. If you're not going to race it, I don't really know if it's necessary.

I'd go ahead and replace the fuel line. It's not too expensive and that would be a biiiiiig problem if it was leaking or cracked. With your current fuel problems, I'd go ahead and replace the lines when you put a new
tank or fuel cell in. Change the filter why you're at it and it should all be good.

Honestly, it all depends on your budget. If you have a ton of money ready to go into the project....then sure go for the cell. I would replace it with a stock tank, fuel line and fuel filter, rebuild your carb and get it running for now.

Get used to this

Welcome to the "You're going to blow up" show. Get used to hearing all of this stuff. Are the cars as safe as a new car? Nope. Are they safe by 1966 standards? Maybe. If we want a "practica"l car, get a Toyota Camry--better AC, better mileage.

Having said that, I will eventually get a fuel cell, but I don't have a grand to get one yet. I will say that I was rear ended in a 65 coupe with no fuel cell. I was hit so hard that the car was totaled and there was no fire or any of that stuff.

You'll hear this a lot. I just smile and thank them for their concern.

With a brand new car, I can think of many, many things that I'd spend a grand on before I dropped it in a fuel cell.
