One thing I've noticed in the recent gun threads are the members who have a problem with CCW, are the same ones living in the middle of no were. Not everyone lives in nice areas, hell the parts store I worked at a few days ago (15 min from home) and a crap load of gang members, drug dealers come through. No image telling a know big time drug dealer his battery isn't covered under warranty and then have him proceed to curse you out and his "buddy/associates" get just as upset (some are huge 240lbs pure muscle). The only job I ever worked at that when hires the boss tells you "If the customer touches you, you do what’s you feel is needed no questions asked". Of course when things got ugly I passed the buck to the manerger on duty. Most of the unfriendly people drove old chevys/buicks on nothing smaller then 22'' rims.

wouldn't that get YOU thrown in jail. I'm just wondering, not attacking, but even if you've just been robbed, I thought you only were allowed to retaliate if he was coming at you or threatening you... not if he was leaving? just a question... i've never been held up so what would I know.

i guess if i worked and/or lived in an area like wystang is describing, I might feel the need for a gun. The only reason I'd have one was to protect my family but even in that case it seems almost counter-productive to have one.

WTF does that mean? lol

I don't live in a bad area just have been threated a lot of times. Most of the time by people I don't even know. This time was not to my face but it was from someone who has hurt people before and isn't all there in the head. Also was told he has followed me home already so I'm not taking any chances

This is my gun. Also known as the Canon. H&K (Heckler & Koch) USP .45 compact.

Also have a concealed weapons permit and frequent gun ranges all over Florida. I have to carry when I'm on the road. Its saved me on two occasions (almost jacked twice).

Those are really nice guns. I was at a local gun shop last summer looking at the Glock 23 and the USP compact, both in .40. I have short fingers, which made it hard to comfortably reach the Glock's trigger. I am definately getting the USP. Vib, how well has it held up for you?

ES, I've had the gun since 2001 and its fired thousands of rounds. It comes apart easily for cleaning. By far the best gun. The .40 is nice, gets you a few extra shots.

I have a nice scar from a .40 Glock compact on my hand. Very uncomfortable for me. I needed a safety on mine and Glock's just don't cut it. USP blows it out of the water hands down everytime.

The Sig .40 great and the most comfortable .40 I've held is made by Walther.

I read the first few

"WHY in the WORLD would you want to carry a *horrified gasp* GUN"

comments and skipped to here.

Why?

Because, yes, things do happen in the real world which require you to protect yourself and loved ones, ESPECIALLY if you live in a neighborhood like the one I just moved out of.

Would you confront someone you witnessed breaking into your car?

I did.

He then came at me with a knife.

If I wouldn't have been carrying at the time, there's a real good chance I wouldn't be posting this right now.

If the kid two blocks away from my old place had been carrying the night that he was jumped while walking from his car to his house, perhaps he's still have normal motor function and coordination.

I could go on...

Yes, I'm passionate about this subject.

I carry because it's my right to protect myself, my wife, my family and friends from danger and I will do so. I carry knowing and appreciating the responsibility that I have with such a powerful tool in my possession.

Amen brother!

Now that I live in burbs, I'm slowing stopping carrying...it's more of an inconvenience now than it's worth. But just because *I* don't need to carry anymore doesn't mean I'll question anyone elses need...or allow some politician to take that right away.

In the old neighborhood, I was always hot and with good reason.

Fact is, not everyone has the means to live in a nice area.
