I just bought an 82 mustang L for $100. Anyone know what the L stands for? It is a 4cyl 4spd car. I have a 351w im going to put in it. My main ? is, can i use the 4spd temp. till i can can swing a new setup? Also the fenders are rusted as well as the doors, but the rest is solid. will any fox body parts fit? I'm on a budget with this one cause i'm currently building my 05.

you forgot about GT, does it have the 82GT front end? look in my sig for pics to see what i'm talking about..nice find i'm buying a roller 82GT soon for 100.00 also, start looking in peoples backyards(usually out in the back roads) for fox bodied cars, there's LOTS of em to be had cheap and some aren't that rusted yet

The early Fox 'Stangs came in four trim designations: L, GL, GLX and Cobra. L was the bottom of the line, stripper model.

In 1982, yep. The first three years didn't even have those designators - base models were simply called Mustang. Upscale was Ghia, sporty was Cobra. In '82, trim levels got a bit more organized.

Most Fox parts are interchangeable year-to-year. The front fenders are the same from '79 thru '90. '91+ has a slightly elongated wheel opening (went to 16" wheels that year). Still fits. The four-banger tranny might work with the right bellhousing, but you're looking for headaches. Leave it till you get a T-5, IMHO.

Not with a four-banger in it. All '82 GTs had 302s.

See foureyedpride.com and ascmclarencoupe.com for lots more info.

Im guessing the gt front end will bolt up. I've been looking and body parts foe the early stangs are hard to find. i was going to do an 87-93 front end, but the four eyed front is growing on me. I like the gt cover but dont want to have to add side skirts and rear cover. and also are the hoods diff. on these early models? most cowl hoods i c say 87-93. And yes im gana wait for a t5. My buddy wants me to use a c4 cause i'm gana drag it. My 05 is an auto and i realy miss banging the gears. Kinda takes the fun out of it.

to make it look like an 82GT all you need is the front pieces, there is no factory side skirts and the rear bumper is the same as your car compared to an 82GT..i know all about the 82GT's f4fntm, i was just starting that you made a list of all the 82 types, but didnt include GT..you didnt say you were only listing 4 bangers, sorry man

sweet purchase, I just found the holy grail of rare early foureyes, and got it for $325. It's a no accident NO option (no ac, no rear defrost, no center console, no pass side mirror, etc etc) 82 gl notch with a factory 5.0, factory hood scoop, and 4 speed. Going in next month is a roller cam'd shortblock with gt40's and a t5.
