I was watching powerblock on spike last weekend and I think it was extreme 4x4 they said brake cleaner works good to prep metal before painting. (they were doing a frame) So I am going to use it to prep my calipers before painting. First I used a strong degreaser and a rag to wipe them, then hung them and sprayed the hell out the calipers with brake cleaner and I am letting them dry before taping them off and painting them, what do you think? Anyone use brake cleaner as a prep before?

Yep all the time, It dries with no residue, Make sure its completly clean though sometimes it just mixes in the corners with grease or oil.... otherwise works excellent.

Just watch around the seal that goes around the piston, get too much brake cleaner on that and it will make the rubber swell up and pop off.

Or you can do what I did. New calipers are so cheap just go buy new ones, paint them before you bolt them up and be done with it. Plus you can install stainless steel caliper sleeves while your at it.
