Hello,
I had a few questions regarding the brake kit from Late Model Restoration Supply...($399) What kind of axles are in this kit, and also is this a complete kit to perform a 5 lug swap?? Any thoughts/comments on this kit would be appreciated...thanx again :D

I'm not sure what brand the axles are, but here is the description from the website.

The most economical and comprehensive kit on the market! Kit includes 2 five lug front rotors. 2 five lug rear axles* and drums, 2 inner and outer front wheel bearings, 2 front rotor grease seals, 2 axle bearing and seal kits, 1 bottle of friction modifier, and 3 bottles of Royal Purple 75W90 gear oil. This kit has EVERYTHING you need to convert your 87-93 5.0L to 5-lug the right way!

79-86 cars and 87-93 2.3L cars need to use 87-93 5.0L spindles, struts, and calipers.

*Axles are stock length 28 spline, with a 5" x 4.5" bolt pattern. They are made from high quality steel and through hardended to increase touque capacity 25% over a stock axle.

Also, if you use this style swap you will not be able to run certain rims due to the large spindle hub and dust cap.

The axles are probably out of an aerostar or ranger - just new. The rotors are probably from a old Linclon Mark Vii

Not to mention you will likely be increasing wheel diameter, thereby increasing rotational mass, thereby requiring greater braking force to stop the same as OEM distance w/ stock wheels (which is terrible to begin with). The 50resto kit fails to offer better braking performance than stock. You ultimately end up with stock performaing type brakes w/ larger wheels that results in an increased stopping distance - i.e. worse braking performance than where you are now and you pay $400 for it too.

Can anyone confirm that Summit no longer carries the M2300k 5 lug Cobra brake kit?? (did not find it on the website)...Also the price went up to $2400??...(Last time i checked it was $2000)!!

They might have discontined the kit... Other companies like baer sell basic kits for a little more than the MK kit.

Or you can piece together a "modern" brake setup with 94/95 spindles and brakes.

Either get a setup off a 96+, even off a V6. Either that or a whole aftermarket system. Reason being because the standard fox upgrade wouldn't even pass new car standards on a mini-van. To be honest, once you consider the price, then the price of the aftermarket system, the value is better aftermarket. I am planning on a Strange/Aerospace drag brake setup.

Summit has it listed on page 289 of their November/December 2006 catalog. Price = 2109.95

I called Summit about it a few days ago. They said discontinued, even though its in their new catalog.
Steeda says some of the parts in are not produced anymore so Ford is deciding if they should use remanufactured parts (MC, booster). No time estimate.
Brothers called Ford while I was on hold (atleast they said they did), they were told the kit would be avaliable on Oct 31st.
So who knows if will be made again.
FYI: I originally bought a kit in 1997, it cost me $1200. I bought another one in 1998, that one cost $1400.

I was thinking about this Thread when I seen it in the Catalog Yesterday. My Booster was dented when I bought my Kit so I called Ford Racing to get another one and the guy said they were going to cancel that kit years ago when their supplies ran out, but its been popular so they keep on finding someone to supply parts that they run out of, I would say the kits are just on back order for a while.
