Brake light on dash

I've noticed lately that the brake light on my dash comes on periodically when I am stopping under normal driving conditions. This is the light that normally comes on when I set the parking brake, which of course I do not use when stopping under normal driving conditions. Once I resume moving from the stop, the light goes out.

What is the light trying to tell me? My wheels do not seem to be locking when it is on, which would have been my first guess. I do not notice any ABS pulsing at that time either.

Any ideas?

Sticky parking brake switch.. Pull the center console off and lube/check to make sure the switch is functioning freely... (would be my first guess and likely the cause)

check your master cylinder and make sure it has enough brake fluid.........then report back

normally low fluid, i am having the same thing right now, I have to add it tomorrow

As an aside, if you dont have any leaks in the system, you might be about out of brake pads. I would check them as well.

What nearly all of them said!!

If you don't have a leak, your pads have worn to the point that the fluid level in your master cylinder is low. Don't top it off, change the pads. If you top it off, then discover you need pads, when you retract the pistons, splooog will occur.

Brake fluid is cheap. Just add some to the master cylinder until you get the chance to check the brake pads.

I know its been a while since I posted this question; I checked and indeed I was a little (2 or 3 ounces) low on brake fluid. I added less than half of a small bottle and it seems fine now. Waiting for warmer weather so I can clean up the garage and then check the brake pads; I don't think its been that long so I would be surprised if they were worn out. Once spring starts I'll be changing back to my summer tires so I'll check the pads then.
