I've been trying to install the brake light switch on my 65 fastback read a ton of suggestions but still no luck my brake pedal doesn't have a cotter pin does this sound right? How does the switch stay in place? The bushings seems like they don't belong I know they do but it just doesn't seem right thanks in advance

the bushings do belong there ,it isnt a cotter pin its a spring clip that holds the master cylinder rod and brake light switch.sorry its a little blurry.

The clip is also used on the clutch pedal.

Thanks I figure that I needed the bushings but i still don't see where there would be a cotter pin could I have a different type of brake set up? Like a early model 65?

ok, brake light switch step by step. prety much the same set up all the way to 1970
(1) plastic washer first over pin.
(2) plastic bushing goes into master cylinder rod.
(3) rod slips into brake light switch.
(4) rod and switch slips on pin, the wiring pins point towards pedal i have them backwards in pic.
(5) plastic washer over pin.
(6) spring clip, you are done just plug in wires.

while diging through my pedal collection,i came across this set .it is from a 64 1/2 and has a c clip instead of a spring pin .it is very possible this is what you have. if so the brake light switch will not work with this pedal as the 64 1/2 and some early 65s had the switch on the master cylinder. if you have this pedal you will have to change it to the later 65-66 pedal to use the pedal type switch.

Early '65 has a hydraulic brake light switch screwed into the front of the master cylinder.
