I played with my steering column today and put my starter calbe on the starter solenoid, and put the battery back in, and now my brake light wont turn off. If I step on it really fast they flash, but I can'tr figure out whats keeping them on. I looked at the switch under the dash, and it all looks fine. No pinched wires, or anything.

I have heard, as seems to be indicative on mine, that my brake light stays on because I need new brakes. The rear drums are very worn. It will only go off if while driving I hit the brakes a bit hard. Under hard accel, it will kick the light back on again.

Is it possible you may need a brake job?

Worn down brakes won't cause that. Maybe your thinking of the dash light that says "brake"? Having worn brakes would mean there is more fluid in the caliper than if oyu had thick pads, so your brake fluid resivour drains a little, therfore causing the "brake" light to come on indicating that you need more fluid. I am talking stop lights. I went under the dash and flicked the switch mechanism on and off or whatever, and put the battery back and it works fine now. I don't know what the problem was

Chris, i can see where UMD was coming from - i thought you were talking about the moron light on the dash too (till your last post).

so the issue is the stop lamp switch (on the brake pedal arm). if in doubt, just get a new one. the contacts get funky and can work intermittantly (think of how many times that switch has been used over the years). they cant be much money and are cake to swap. sounds like you switch was staying closed - that would not be cool to have happen while driving or overnight (dead battery, burned out bulbs, etc).

good luck Chris.

oh yeah, you still thinking of swapping your guts into another stang? i would not - sure is a sweet lookin ride!

It stopped, but now it's doing it again. If i quickly and just barely tap the brakes the light shuts off. I can see if its on at night from it reflecting off the window, but not during the day. Everyone must think I'm riding my brakes lol

The switch is a pain in the ass to change, but I might have to change it.

And yes the GT was nice, I miss it, but the notch has no rust, unlike the GT which was litterally falling apart (maybe I'll post pics in my post of this) and That was extremely unsafe. The notch already feels so tight. I love it, but not the interior, heh. I need a different color than mismatched blue. I am swaping my wheels, etc into it all this week.

There might be an issue with your brake light switch pad. A small bush kind of thing which presses against the switch under your brake pedal. Once broken the switch remains on and hence the lights stay on. It happened with my Stang and it seems Ford does not provide just that small part as aftermarket product and the only solution they provide is to change the whole brake pedal system which will cost you a fortune. Coming to the solution, which i adopted was to buy any 'KIA' or "hyundai' brake light switch pad which might cost you 3$ at max. They are the exact same size and very easy to install.
